Today was about celebrating First Responders and we learnt from one of the best, Tim Hair from LifeFlight. Often we’re on the roads travelling at all times of the day and night, or at events where things happen and now we have the tools to jump into action. This training was really really good so if you’re in business and looking for training or even a team activity I thoroughly recommend this one!!

🚨⛑️Today councillors did our First Minutes Matter course designed to save a life with LifeFlight … Hopefully we’ll never have to use what we learnt.

We’re at a lot of public events, driving on rural roads etc so we figured that knowing what to do in an before help arrives is so important.

Tim Hair was an outstanding educator. Super practical and focused skills.

If it’s been a while since you turned your mind to how you’d respond in an emergency, consider this post a prompt to do something about it. Might just end up saving a life.

The Ramsay State School didn’t let the much needed rain dampen their parade this week opening their new paved and mountain bike pump track. It was a true community project with funds raised received by the School Subsidy Scheme Grant and a stellar fundraising effort by the P&C.

Member for Condamine and Speaker of the House was on hand to open it along with and I in support. I must say it’s a fabulous addition to this gorgeous country school who’s kids can’t ride to school due to the road conditions and they can learn vital road safety rules and mountain biking skills at school.

The opening of this coincides perfectly with today and last week.

Thanks to the school, teachers, P&C and local community and suppliers and Karrabin Projects who made it all possible.

National volunteer week started today so we celebrated our 453 volunteers across 35 volunteer areas with a Mayoral Morning Tea. In 2025 volunteers contributed an incredible 20,158 hrs across our region with 6,000 hrs at our visitor information centres alone.

MC rightly said it’s “People who make communities” and our quoted Winston Churchill: “We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give” and I thank our volunteers for the time they give.

Our oldest volunteer Ray from celebrated his 100th B’day (centre pic 7) and huge thanks for our team at TRC (pic 8) who I roped into a photo, unfortunately I missed a few.

On 12 December last year I was fortunate to attend the opening of the Clive Berghofer Breast Centre , opened with the generosity of Clive Berghofer and the vision of Drs Sharon & Eric Donaldson and the team.

Yesterday I visited as a patient and fortunately received a positive prognosis and the all clear. A dear friend was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and has just undergone surgery. She is one of many friends who I know have been diagnosed in recent years. Cancer travels fast and doesn’t discriminate so if you haven’t had a check for a while, please do.

My fellow colleague Deputy Mayor Councillor Dr Rebecca Vonhoff had a check this week too, also inspired by the beautiful Louise Brownlie . 💕

It was a beautiful ANZAC morning in Millmerran yesterday with a huge community turnout. Thank you for such a touching service Millmerran RSL, and St Joseph’s College and Millmerran State P-10 School your choir, band, singers and student speakers were brilliant.

I was particularly touched by the poem ‘ANZAC on the wall’ and then learning Millmerran has recently found its own soldier on the wall (last pic) of Michael Flynn who was killed serving in Gallipoli. As said by Captain Higgins in his address ‘Freedom is not free’. Lest we forget.

I joined the Yarraman P-9 State School for their ANZAC service along with the Yarraman RSL, and members of the and had the privilege of laying a wreath on behalf of our community.

Just the other day I was there for the school leaders induction ceremony and it was a delight to see how much they’ve grown in confidence public speaking. Am looking forward to seeing the school add Grade 10 next year allowing the kids to stay in town one more year, not having to travel for education or go straight into the workforce. 👏👏

I caught the crew making their way up the hill this arvo and am so proud of my friend who took out the gong as the fastest woman up the mountain!!! Murphy’s Creek Rd is a bloody hard hill, especially when you’ve already done 100kms. Great to see you all l and all the best for the rest of the ride!! I still think you’re all mad riding from Bris to Longreach but what a great cause, Wellbeing Program providing mental health support to rural and remote areas. A hard ride to provide services that are much needed and hard to find. 👏👏

For anyone who wants to donate visit: https://ridewest-2026.raiselysite.com , they’re up to $545k, so help them crack the $550k! (Link also in bio)
