🚧 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲 – 𝗗𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 🚧

Main Roads WA has advised that Dumbarton Bridge will be temporarily closed while essential bridge inspections are carried out.

Closure Dates:
📅 Thursday 18 June 2026
📅 Friday 19 June 2026

🚌 School bus services will continue to operate as normal and will not be impacted by the bridge closure.

Detours will be in place via:
• Irishtown Road
• Goomaling–Toodyay Road
• Nairn Drive (additional detour)

Traffic management will be in place, and motorists are encouraged to allow extra travel time and follow all signage and detour directions.

We understand closures can be inconvenient and appreciate the community's patience while these important inspections are completed to help ensure the ongoing safety of the bridge.

Please note that these works are being undertaken by Main Roads WA and are not Shire of Toodyay works.

🐨 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗻𝘀, 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 🐨

Yesterday, the Shire of Toodyay was delighted to celebrate a very special occasion, welcoming 10 new Australian citizens at a Citizenship Ceremony held in Council Chambers.

Presiding Member of the Ceremony and Shire President Michael McKeown officially welcomed our newest citizens as they took this important step and began a new chapter in their lives.

Council Chambers was packed with family, friends and community members, creating a wonderful atmosphere of celebration and support. It was heartening to see so many people come together to congratulate and welcome our newest Australians.

Becoming an Australian citizen is a significant milestone. It reflects a commitment to our shared values, community spirit and the many opportunities that come with calling Australia home. Our community is enriched by the diverse experiences, cultures and perspectives that each new citizen brings.

On behalf of the Shire of Toodyay, congratulations to all 10 of our new citizens. We are honoured to share this moment with you and are proud to welcome you as valued members of our community. We wish you all the very best for the future as you continue your journey in Toodyay and Australia. 💚 💛

📣𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘄𝘀: 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗼𝗼𝗱𝘆𝗮𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗳𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘄 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

The Shire of Toodyay proposes to make the abovementioned local law, pursuant to the Local Government Act 1995, the purpose and effect of which is:

Purpose : The purpose of this local law is to regulate the use of thoroughfares, public places and local government property in order to promote public safety, manage obstructions, protect the natural environment, ensure fair and orderly trading, and provide clear standards for activities such as verge treatments, signage, street trading, outdoor eating facilities, and other uses of public land within the Shire of Toodyay.

Effect: The effect of this local law is to provide a legal framework that:
➡️ Prescribes the activities that require a permit;
➡️ Sets conditions under which those activities may be conducted;
➡️ Regulates trading, events and signage in public places;
➡️ Manages vegetation, firebreaks, environmental protection and activities that may impact thoroughfares;
➡️ Establishes offences for non‑compliance, including prescribed modified penalties; and
➡️ Enables the Shire to issue notices and take enforcement action to protect public health, amenity, safety and environmental values.

A copy of the proposed Local Law may be inspected at or obtained from the Shire’s Administration Centre at 15 Fiennes Street, Toodyay between 8.30 am and 4.00 pm Monday to Friday, at the Toodyay Public Library during normal opening hours or online

The Shire invites submissions by 4.00pm on Friday 26 June 2026.

The Shire of Toodyay is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced individuals for appointment as an Independent Community Member of the Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC).

The ARIC plays an important role in supporting:
✔️ Financial management and audit oversight
✔️ Risk management and compliance
✔️ Transparency and accountability
✔️ Continuous improvement across the Shire

🗓 Term of appointment: Until the next local government election in September 2027.

We are looking for individuals with experience in areas such as:
• Financial management
• Audit and assurance
• Risk management
• Governance and compliance
• Internal controls or cyber security

Desirable experience includes public sector governance, local government knowledge, and strong communication and leadership skills.

💰 Independent members receive a meeting attendance allowance of $123.25 per meeting.

A big thank you to our community for your patience, understanding, and support whilst DFES and Emergency Services worked to resolve this issue.

The Shire of Toodyay is pleased to let the community know that traffic management measures between Oddfellow Street and Racecourse Road, Toodyay, have now concluded and traffic conditions have returned to normal.

We truly appreciate the cooperation shown by residents, motorists, and everyone affected during this time. Thank you for supporting our emergency services and for looking out for one another throughout the incident.

⚠️ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲 – 𝗢𝗶𝗹 𝗦𝗽𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 ⚠️

The Shire of Toodyay wishes to advise the community that DFES is currently managing a Hazmat incident involving an oil spill affecting the area between Oddfellow Street and Racecourse Road, Toodyay.

Relevant personnel remain on site responding to the incident, with the Shire assisting DFES by providing and spreading sand across impacted areas as requested.

A temporary 40 km/h speed limit is currently in place within the affected area.

Community members are asked to please exercise caution when travelling through the area and follow all directions from personnel on site.

The Shire thanks the community for its patience and cooperation while crews work to safely resolve the situation.
