🐾 Supporting those who support our community

Last night at our training night, we were privileged to welcome Karen Hollings from Dogs for First Responders, along with the wonderful Angus. 🐕‍🦺

Karen shared her personal experience as a paramedic and the journey that led her to establish Dogs for First Responders, providing specially trained dogs to support first responders experiencing the psychological impacts of their work.

For those of us who regularly attend difficult and confronting jobs, wellbeing isn't something that should only be addressed when someone reaches breaking point. Sometimes, the simple presence of a calm, trusted dog can provide comfort, connection and a safe space to decompress after challenging experiences.

Dogs can offer companionship without judgement, create opportunities for people to connect and talk, and provide a gentle reminder to pause and look after ourselves.

Most importantly, Karen reminded us that support is available, and it's okay to reach for it.

We are very grateful to Karen and Angus for spending the evening with us, sharing their story and introducing us to a resource that our members can access whenever they need it.

Sometimes support has four legs, a wagging tail, and a very good reason to stop for a pat. 🐾❤️

Thank you, Karen and Angus!
