We hope Santa wasn't too tired after hanging out with everyone! He was pretty knackered after our park visits. Big thanks to Lake Macquarie Private Hospital, Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group, and our mates at Windale Gateshead Bowling Club for their long standing support. Have a safe and happy holiday period!

Hello all, the time is near. On Christmas Eve 24th December Santa's plan is to be at the park next to our fire station at St. John Memorial Pk from approximately 1600-1620.
We will be going to Barhloo Reserve Windale from1630 -1650. Then moving to
Kestrel Avenue Reserve playground 1700-1720
And finally Mullington Park, Cowmeadow rd Mount Hutton 1730 -1750.
Apologies if you are unable to make these locations however Santa's time is precious.

Please note that no route will be driven, no Christmas tunes or lights and sirens as we don't want anyone attracted to our moving vehicles.

Please know this change has impacted our staff as well. Be sure to have a smile on your face to keep the arvo cheery!

For more than 50 years, our Christmas Eve lolly run has been a much-loved tradition in our community. We're proud of the connection it has created between our firefighters and local families.
This year, the format of the lolly run will look a little different.
Updated safety guidance for all stations means we're no longer able to throw lollies from the truck. This change has been introduced to prevent children running towards moving vehicles, reduce the risk of accidental injury, and ensure we meet food safety and legal requirements.
We know how important this event is to many families, and it's important to us as well. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Please be patient with us if we run a little late and we apologise if you are unable to make these locations but this is our only option. Thanks for your understanding.

Thank you for all the support. It’s been awesome to see how much the community enjoys the annual lolly run and we’re looking forward to keeping the tradition going.

Just a quick update:

Fire & Rescue NSW management has asked that we don’t throw lollies from the truck this year. The concern isn’t the lollies themselves, but the risk of someone running onto the road or close to traffic to chase them. We want the fun to continue, just safely.

The good news is the lolly run is absolutely still happening. Santa will be on the fire truck on Christmas Eve, the crew will be out there volunteering their time, and we’ll be sharing a few fire safety reminders along the way. You can still grab lollies, they’ll just be handed out at our stopping points instead of being thrown from the truck.

We’ll share the route and stop locations ASAP so families know where to meet us. You might leave with a sweet treat and a friendly reminder to check your smoke alarms - but you won’t be dodging flying Minties this year.

Can’t wait to see everyone on Christmas Eve! 🎄🎅🚒

For the last 51 years the Christmas Eve lolly run was staffed by our dedicated Retained Firefighters. These firefighters hold other careers and sacrifice valuable family time to be a retained member.

To our followers please be advised that the format of the lolly run will change this year. Our organisation has highlighted the risk of harm to the public caused by the throwing of lollies from our appliances. It was also highlighted to our firefighters that we may be committing various criminal offences in the act of throwing lollies.

Therefore we will not be driving the streets as we have done. A new format is under development, however this will not be guaranteed past this year. Please be patient while this format is developed.

We understand that many in the community will be saddened at this news, as are we. Please do not take this out on any of our team.

Thankyou for your support.
