STEPPING UP FOR OUR COMMUNITY ๐Ÿ‰๐Ÿ

Over the past two weeks, some of our wonderful Year 7-10 Netball and Rugby students visited Huntingdale Primary School to run a series of clinics for the Year 6 students as part of their Step-Up Program.

Our students had the opportunity to coach, lead warm-ups and facilitate a range of skills sessions, demonstrating outstanding leadership, enthusiasm and teamwork. They were exceptional ambassadors for Thornlie SHS and represented our school with pride.

We look forward to continuing these clinics throughout the year as we strengthen our partnerships with our local schools and wider community. ๐Ÿ˜

LEARNING FROM NATURE'S POWER ๐ŸŒ

In Year 8 HASS, students have been actively investigating the Whakaari/White Island volcanic eruption as part of a research inquiry focused on natural hazards.

Through their research, students have explored the causes and impacts of the eruption, examining both the human and environmental consequences of this significant event. Along the way, they have been developing their research, critical thinking and analytical skills by evaluating online sources and presenting their findings.

This inquiry has sparked thoughtful discussions about risk management, tourism safety and the challenges communities face when responding to natural disasters.

READING CAN TAKE YOU ANYWHERE! โœจ

The Premierโ€™s Reading Challenge runs each year, encouraging students across Western Australia to discover new worlds through books by reading at least six books over the 12-week challenge.

A huge congratulations to Emily (Year 8), who won a Kobo Clara e-reader simply by participating in the 2026 Premierโ€™s Reading Challenge! ๐ŸŽ‰

There are plenty of prizes up for grabs throughout the challenge, with weekly draws for students who log their reading. Itโ€™s a great reminder that every page can lead to exciting opportunities!

The challenge is almost over, so donโ€™t forget to log all of your reading before 12 June. Every book counts, and itโ€™s not too late to be in the running for a prize.

Happy reading, Thornlie! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’™

BUILDING GLOBAL FRIENDSHIPS! ๐ŸŒ

Earlier this year, Thornlie Senior High School was proud to host students from Nihon Gakuen Junior High School as part of our Japanese Immersion Program.

The experience provided students with the opportunity to build friendships, immerse themselves in a new culture and create memories that will last a lifetime. From classroom experiences to cultural activities, it was a truly rewarding exchange for everyone involved.

A huge thank you to GOLD Educational Tours and Tomio for creating this wonderful video that captures the spirit of the program and showcases the incredible experiences shared by our students and staff.

We are grateful for the kind feedback received and look forward to welcoming students from Dalton Tokyo Gakuen in Term 3 as we continue to strengthen our international connections and cultural understanding. ๐Ÿฅฐ
