AN OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE! 🎶

Last Friday, the Concert Band proudly represented Thornlie Senior High School at the 2026 ABODA/IMSS Band and Orchestra Festival at Churchlands SHS.

This prestigious three-day event showcased primary and secondary school ensembles from across Western Australia. We are thrilled to announce that our band achieved the highest possible rating of “Outstanding”! 🌟

This incredible achievement directly reflects the commitment, perseverance and rigorous hard work our musicians and Mrs Batty dedicated to mastering their repertoire this year.

Festivals like this are integral to the ensemble experience, providing young musicians with invaluable professional feedback and uniting them in their shared goal of performing to the highest standards.

Congratulations to the band on this fantastic result! 🎶👏

R U OK? DAY 2026 💛

Thornlie SHS was a sea of yellow as we came together to recognise R U OK? Day and remind our school community just how powerful a simple conversation can be.

We kicked things off with our 2.1km Parkrun at recess, before enjoying a fantastic festival at lunch and Period 5! From food trucks and our cuddly animal farm to music, games, prizes and mental health organisations, there was plenty happening across the school. 🐐🎶🌭

Most importantly, the day was about connection - checking in with the people around us, noticing when someone might not quite seem themselves, and remembering that asking “R U OK?” can make a real difference.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped bring the day together and to our students and staff who embraced the activities so enthusiastically.

Ask R U OK? Any Day 🌼

BANDING TOGETHER FOR THE BIG STAGE 🎶

The TSHS Concert Band were treated to a band workshop yesterday with David Matchim, who is a guest adjudicator at the 2026 ABODA/IMSS Band Festival this weekend.

David is Director of Bands at Centennial High School in Howard County, Maryland, USA. He is a highly regarded music educator and clinician who regularly adjudicates and presents at festivals and conferences across the US and internationally.

It was a fantastic learning opportunity for all involved and the band and Director gained a lot of useful tips for their upcoming performance this Friday! Thank you again to David, Alan Lourens and ABODA for initiating and organising this event for our school. 👏🏽

ARTS WEEK 2026 🎨

What a colourful start to Arts Week at Thornlie SHS!

On Monday, we welcomed Cath from Garden of Weaving, who shared her passion, creativity and skills in fibre arts with our students.

Yesterday, the creativity continued with watercolour painting and some fabulous Frida Kahlo-inspired pots! 🌺🖌️

And we’re only getting started… there’s much more to come throughout the week! We can’t wait to see what else our students create. ✨

CELEBRATING OUR AMAZING EAs! 💐

This week, we’re celebrating Education Assistant Appreciation Week and the incredible EAs who make such a difference at Thornlie SHS every single day. 💛

Our EAs bring patience, care, humour and unwavering support to our classrooms and school community. Whether they’re helping students overcome challenges, celebrating the little wins, lending a listening ear or simply being that familiar face a student needs, the impact they have is enormous.

We are incredibly lucky to have such a dedicated and caring team of EAs at Thornlie SHS.

A huge THANK YOU for everything you do for our students, staff and school. We appreciate you! 🌟
