Join us as we chat with Linni Oliver and Jason Rowland from Deafblind WA about community, connection, and breaking down barriers. The 2026 theme, “Connected by Touch: Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges”, reminds us of the importance of inclusion and understanding.

We also highlight events happening across the country, including a fun and inclusive lawn bowls afternoon in WA to wrap up the week.

• Megan McLoughlin, dressage rider who lives with a vision impairment, invited all to Dressage in the Dark, 2nd July Lyrical Acres 183 Dawkins Road, Lewiston SA at as part of Disability Pride Month.
• Nathan Pepper updated us on the SANFL Apm Employment League, AFL wheelchair and blind and low vision competitions.
• Dr Kari Seeley, CEO for No Strings Attached, was very excited about their season of “Hamlet: The Loneliest” at Slingsby's Hall of Possibility, rear of 96 Glen Osmond Road. Audio Described: Saturday 27th June. Auslan interpreted Sunday, 28th June.
• Pam Mitchell, Resident Counsellor, spoke about change.
• Alice Rolls, SA Minister for Domestic, family and sexual abuse, and child protection, talked about the Lived Experience Advisory Group, (LEAG) that is being formed - a response to one of the recommendations from the recent Royal Commission.
• Josephine Nicholls's son Nic was diagnosed with a brain tumour leading to Brain Wave coming into being. 30 years later Nic's well and Brain Wave is making a real difference to many other families who are going through what Jo; Nic and their family went through.
• Paul Bird is the author of “Be The Change” a book detailing how; why and what you should know before donating.

It’s a time to recognise people who live with both hearing and vision loss, and to celebrate their strength, skills and contribution to our communities.
Deafblindness is different for everyone, but access to communication, information and connection matters to all.
Take a moment to learn, listen and support a more inclusive world during Deafblind Awareness Week.

As a client of Vision Australia, you can request up to 360 print pages to be converted to your preferred alternate format (braille, audio, large print or e-text) per financial year. Material eligible for format conversion under this service is limited to print materials for a client's personal use in a format to meet their accessibility needs. Examples of eligible materials include brochures/pamphlets, letters, appliance instructions, legal documents, recipes, knitting patterns, diagrams, books, magazines and newspapers.
For more information on alternative format conversions email [email protected] or call 1300 84 74 66.
This free service is funded by the Print Disability Grant provided by the Australian Federal Government.

Elizabeth Beales, President of the Albinism Fellowship of Australia, reflecting on International Albinism Awareness Day 13th June. The theme was "Proud In My Skin". Elizabeth also previewed their National Conference coming up in September in Adelaide.
Rachel, from Marketing at Beyond Blindness, chatted about a number of upcoming events, including changes in the northern suburbs; introduced us to "pocket" groups starting at Glenelg; groups that are a little more tailor-made depending on demographics and geographics.
Tony Scott, Coach and Promoter of lawn bowls in Australia for people who are blind or have low vision, wrapping up recent national training camp for Australian representation; naming athletes chosen for the Commonwealth Games; and a free come n try day 21st June at the Playford bowling Club - Goodman Road Elizabeth, next door to the Central Districts Football Club and a day in Hobart in July.
Ben Tullipan, from Empower golf, invited all to a free come n try Golf Clinic Friday19th June Geelong Curlews; and a number of free days this month in Victoria. people of all abilities are most welcome.
