It is alarming that One Nation has passed in front of both Labor and the LNP in the latest polling. While this is yet to translate into 2 party preferred seats at a general election, there is no time to wait until the NSW election in March 2027, Victorian this year or even the next Federal election.
As UK Greens leader Zak Polanski (who is battling Nigel Farage's Reform party) says -
“There reaches a point, though – and I imagine from the way you describe One Nation, you might have reached that point already – where they are dominating the news agenda or, far too often, other political parties are constantly dancing to their tune.
“So I think it reaches a point where actually you do just need to take them on – and you need to take them on directly by being that antidote.”
One Nation has been feeding on the disappointment of Labor at both the federal and state levels- failure to fully fund schools, hospitals and public housing now, wages falling behind inflation and cuts to the NDIS, all the while AUKUS is given billions for nothing in return
While the Liberals and even National party have been carved out from the right by One Nation, especially with racist scapegoating of migrants, Labor too is losing swinging voters, days Redbridge. Labor has fuelled the racism refusing visas to Iranians, maintaining detention, and fuelling islamophobia with the Royal Commission into anti-semitism
Which is why we need the AEU to campaign now for the full school funding which Albanese has fudged into the never never of 2035- it is exactly this cynical ploy that sees voters switch off from the (previously) major parties
Unions need to lead a fight to reverse the NDIS cuts. ATN has started that with motions at city and country associations
Australian Greens should ‘take on’ Pauline Hanson’s One Nation, Polanski tells Victorian party conference, just as he took on Nigel Farage’s Reform UK
