Last year, nearly half the homes damaged or destroyed by fire in NSW did not have a working smoke alarm! Be smart and take part in Smoke Alarm Action Day, and test your smoke alarm works! A working smoke alarm is your best early warning sign of a fire, giving you and your loved ones the chance to get out, stay out, and call Triple Zero (000).

We have some new crew members at 459 Terrigal and they’ve taken up residence atop our hose drying whip.

They will be keeping an raptor eye on the rest of the crew, ensuring we look after our local residents in times of need.

This Eastern Osprey (Pandion Cristatus) Raptor family, have relocated themselves after being evicted from their home atop a building crane in the Terrigal business district. The crane has been dismantled after the juvenile Osprey left the nest.

It was fortuitously foreseen when one of our staff had some station stickers made up a few months ago……. Who would have guessed !

North Avoca House Fire

Just after 12:30am, Terrigal Fire & Rescue and multiple surrounding stations responded to a well-developed house fire.

On arrival, crews were met with a fully involved three-storey dwelling. Around 40 firefighters from FRNSW and RFS worked for approximately five hours to contain the blaze.

Thankfully, there were no injuries. The scene will be handed over to NSW Police and FRNSW Fire Investigation.

Our graphic designer is out of the office today.

Just a reminder: working smoke alarms save lives, and replacing the battery once a year is just as important.

Terrigal Fire Station had a busy day responding to five calls for assistance across the local area:

• 4 × Fire alarm activations

• 1 × Spillage / HAZMAT incident

At approximately 2:17pm, while returning from another incident, our crew was flagged down by members of the public regarding a truck that had collided with Wamberal Bridge. The impact caused an estimated 350 litres of diesel and hydraulic fluid to spill from the truck, resulting in Ocean View Drive being closed for around three hours.

With assistance from Berkley Vale HAZMAT 228, Gosford Fire Station 304, Central Coast Council, and the NSW Police Force, crews worked to contain and clean up the spill, render the area safe, and minimise environmental impact. Once complete, the incident was handed over to local council.

A big thank you to all agencies involved for the strong multi-agency response, and to the public for their patience during the road closure.
