Just incase you were wondering and you spied us working out, the crew from 459 Terrigal were out at our local oval completing our annual fitness assessment.

Just after 5pm last night, Newcastle Communications alerted local stations of a house fire at South Kincumber.
Numerous trucks were responded including Kincumber, Umina and Terrigal and once on scene at the incident it was confirmed a double storey house was fully involved in fire.

The incident was escalated to a Structure Fire 3rd Alarm which then responded additional resources from across the coast.

The first arriving crews deployed attack lines into the house and commenced fire attack.

Unfortunately the fire quickly took hold and crews were forced to withdraw from the house to attack from external positions.

Despite the best efforts of crews the house was totally destroyed by the fire.

Crews began to be stood down around 9pm and the scene was handed over to NSW Police with crews rotating through fire duty throughout the early morning and into today.

A huge congratulations goes out to the 459 team (Jun, Phil, Alex, Luke, Brad and Bailey) who completed 11th annual Firies Climb for MND in the Blue Mountains on Saturday. They took on the challenge in full structural firefighting gear and climbed thousands of steps to raise money for motor neurone disease research.

They joined crews from stations across the state for the challenge, taking on the steep climb as the event raised over $250,000 for MND research at Macquarie University, with the total continuing to climb. Around 500 participants are took turns tackling Katoomba’s 1,902 Furber Steps every hour for 24 hours.

Fantastic effort guys, let’s get a bigger team ready for next years event!

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile devices. It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we need to test the system across Australia.

On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones, tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.
The test times across NSW are.
2:00 pm AEST
1:30 pm ACST (Broken Hill NSW)

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that lasts about 10 seconds. If this could disrupt you or cause you or a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.
As this is just a test, you don’t need to do anything, but in an actual disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and others safe.

💙 We’re taking on the challenge! 💙

This year, our team 459 Terrigal will be tackling the Furber Stairs in the Blue Mountains to raise vital funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) research.

We’ll be putting in the hours to train and prepare, but our challenge is nothing compared to the daily battle faced by those living with MND. MND is a progressive, terminal neurological disease that slowly takes away a person’s ability to move, speak, breathe and swallow.

The challenge began with firefighters climbing Sydney Tower to raise awareness and funds for MND. This year, we’re proud to continue that legacy by taking on the iconic Furber Stairs and supporting the incredible work of the MND Research Centre at Macquarie University.

Every donation—big or small—brings us one step closer to better treatments and, ultimately, a world without MND.
