New ride-on mowers have arrived at Alpurrurulam and already they have been put to good use by the municipal team.

The two mowers are among five new machines added to Council's fleet, with savings from shifting corporate documents to digital formats helping to offset the overall purchase cost.

Everyone agrees Alpurrurulam is now looking very trimmed, tidy and well maintained so cheers to the municipal team for all your deadly work and dedication.

Local Authorities across the Barkly region play an important role in representing community views and helping guide decisions on local issues and opportunities.

At the most recent Tennant Creek Local Authority meeting, members agreed to invest $30,000 to improve Anzac Hill in Davidson Street.

The bench seat will be replaced, and accessibility will be improved to make the area safer and more functional.

This investment marks the first step in a broader vision for the site. As you'll see in our concept design, we have plans to continue works to transform Anzac Hill into a more welcoming community space for both residents and visitors.

The Tennant Creek Local Authority is also investing in:
✅ $27,000 to install wood-fired barbeques at Lake Mary Ann.
✅ $15,000 to upgrade the cricket pitch at Purkiss Reserve.
✅ $10,000 towards the Youth Centre Festive Season Extravaganza.
✅ $1,000 to the Pool to purchase swimming nappies.
✅ $4,400 towards the cost of a marquee for the Christmas Tree Committee.

There are currently vacancies on Local Authorities in Tennant Creek, Ali Curung and Wutunugurra.

If you care about your community, this is an opportunity to contribute ideas, represent local voices and make a positive difference.

To nominate, call into your local Barkly Regional Council office; email: [email protected]; or call the Tennant Creek office on 8962 0000.

The Barkly Regional Council hosted an Australian Citizenship Ceremony today, with 12 local residents taking the formal Pledge of Commitment before our Mayor, Sid Vashist.

Immigrants have been a huge part of Tennant Creek’s community since the early 1930s when people flocked here from all over the country in search of gold.

People from Afghanistan, Greece, Italy, Poland, Indonesia, England, the Philippines, Nepal, India, Africa, Germany, the Pacific Islands, and everywhere in between have contributed to building the economy and character of Tennant Creek over the years; and we continue to welcome the diversity of skills, talents and social vitality that new Australians bring to our town.

So congratulations and a hearty welcome to our newest, fully-fledged citizens and many thanks for helping us to build a better community here on Warumungu country.

Following their visit to Ampilatwatja, the NT Administrator David Connolly and Ms Sue Brosnan travelled to Tennant Creek last week as part of their Central Australian Residency.

The visit included a meeting with our Mayor Sid Vashist, Deputy Mayor Valda Shannon, and Councillor Greg Marlow to discuss regional priorities, the Barkly's ongoing recovery, and opportunities for future growth and development.

The Administrator and Ms Brosnan also toured the Juno Centre training facility, visited the Nyinkka Nyunyu Art and Culture Centre, and met with the Board and Executive of Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation.

A visit to Tennant Mines and a meeting with the ladies from the CWA were also on the agenda.

Discussions highlighted the importance of education and training pathways, cultural preservation, improved community outcomes, and the economic opportunities being created through mining activity and related industries in the Barkly.
