This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our family.

Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities. Whether they're on the frontline or supporting behind the scenes their contributions are extraordinary.

Today, we thank them for all they do, not just as RFS members, but as leaders and role models in our brigades and communities.

Forestry Corporation NSW plan to conduct hazard reduction burning (weather and conditions permitting) in Cairncross State Forest possibly commencing this week.

HRB Cairncross West is in the vicinity of Reids Road, Scrubby creek Road, Waterfall Road, Southern Boundary Road, Jacks Road, and other compartment trails.

The burning will most likely generate emergency calls with its proximity to the local community, public infrastructure, and forest stakeholders. We will have several staff at the above location throughout the week and an increased display of signage along with traffic management.

Today, 31 March, marks the end of the statutory Bush Fire Danger Period (BFDP) for the majority of NSW including Mid Coast and Port Macquarie-Hastings LGA.

While many landholders may no longer require a fire permit, you are still required to notify the RFS and your neighbours of your intention to burn at least 24 hours before lighting the fire.

For more information on the bush fire danger period and fire permits, visit the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

Later this week, NSW is set to experience both ends of the spectrum when it comes to our weather 🥵🥶

In the south, colder conditions are forecast, with a chance of snow across the Alps on Friday. As temperatures drop and you fire up your heaters or fireplaces, remember to keep anything flammable at least one metre away.

Meanwhile, in the north, dry and windy conditions are expected, increasing the fire danger. If you’re in an area of elevated risk, now is the time to review your bush fire plan and make sure you know what you’ll do if a fire threatens.

For the latest information on fires, visit the Hazards Near Me app or the NSW RFS website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/fnm

This afternoon, our Category 7 Tanker was deployed to investigate reports of smoke in the vicinity of the Cooperabung range, where a fire was discovered to have escaped containment and was spreading. With assistance from neighbouring units, we eventually brought the situation under control.

After the fire passes, we tend to see people wanting to explore fire affected areas.
Firefighters are still working on the firegrounds and there is still active fire.
Attached is a photo of one of several trees that have been damaged and have fallen across roads affected by the Aerodrome Road fire. These trees can come down at short notice and cause serious harm or injury.
If you do not need to be in the area, for your safety and the safety of our firefighters, it is important that you do not enter these areas until firefighters have made the area safe.
