🎉 Halfway There, Year 12! 🎉

This week our Year 12 students celebrated reaching the halfway mark of their final year of school! 🌟

On Tuesday, students enjoyed a fun PJ Day, taking a moment to relax and celebrate how far they have come. Even our Year 12 Mentors got into the spirit, joining in the pyjama fun alongside the students! 🛌😄

Today, the celebrations continued with a special morning tea, where students shared photos of themselves from when they first started school. 📸💙

It was wonderful to reflect on the journey from those first days in the classroom to becoming the young adults they are today. The photos sparked plenty of laughs, smiles, and memories as students looked back on how much they have grown over the years.

Congratulations, Year 12! The finish line is getting closer, but there are still plenty of memories to make. We are incredibly proud of everything you have achieved so far and can't wait to see what the rest of your final year brings. 🎓✨

🥁🇯🇵 Last week, our Year 8–12 Japanese and Music students participated in a unique Japanese Taiko Drumming Experience in the Kumangka Theatre! 🎶✨

Students learned about the history of taiko, explored the traditional instruments, and discovered the important role taiko plays in Japanese culture and society. They also had the exciting opportunity to get hands-on and learn authentic drumming techniques under the guidance of Kiyomi Sensei. 👏🎌

There was plenty of energy, plenty of noise, and plenty of fun! 🥁🔥

A huge thank you to Kiyomi Sensei from Tyke-Oh for bringing the exciting world of Japanese taiko drumming to BPIHS. 🙏🇯🇵🎶

🏃‍♂️💙 Our Year 12 PE class recently had an incredible opportunity to visit the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) for the Heart of the Community – Sport Volunteer Expo! 🏆🙌
Held as part of National Volunteer Week 🤝, the expo gave our students a chance to explore sport volunteering and the many career pathways available in health and physical education. 💼⚽🏀 They connected with representatives from South Australia's State Sporting Organisations and heard firsthand how volunteering can open doors to exciting jobs and careers in sport. 🚀
Students also enjoyed a guided tour of SASI's brand-new world-class facilities 🏟️, including the Adelaide University Sports Science Hub 🔬, and learned about the lives and routines of elite-level athletes in South Australia. 🥇💪

A fantastic experience all round — well done to our Year 12 PE class! 👏🎉

On Thursday, a group of our Aboriginal students visited Tauondi College for Rec in the West as part of Reconciliation Week.

We had a fantastic day immersed in culture, enjoying dance, arts, and the opportunity to connect with community. With over 300 stallholders to explore, there was so much to see, learn, and experience.

The day was wrapped up with a visit to the new cultural centre, Yitpi Yartapuultiku, providing a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the importance of culture, history, and reconciliation.

SPECIAL REPORT: Responding to Peer Pressure
Peer pressure is a normal and inevitable part of growing up. From early childhood through adolescence, young people are constantly influenced by the attitudes, behaviours and expectations of those around them. As friendships become increasingly important, peers can play a powerful role in shaping how children and teenagers think, feel and act.
In today's digitally connected world, peer pressure extends far beyond the classroom or playground. Social media, messaging apps and online communities mean young people are exposed to constant comparison, instant feedback and unspoken expectations about how they should look, behave and perform. While some peer influence can be positive and motivating, it can also place significant pressure on young people to conform, take risks or prioritise acceptance over their own values and wellbeing.
Understanding how peer pressure works, both offline and online, allows parents, caregivers and educators to better support young people as they develop confidence, resilience and decision-making skills. When families and schools work together to build strong connections, open communication and shared language around peer influence, young people are better equipped to resist negative pressure and embrace positive influences that support their growth and wellbeing.

Wear it Yellow Day

As part of our week-long celebrations for National Reconciliation Week, we invite all students and staff to take part in Wear it Yellow Day on Wednesday 27 May.

Students and staff are encouraged to wear a splash of yellow by adding yellow school-appropriate items such as tops, bandanas, socks, beanies or ribbons to their school uniform for the day.

Join us at lunchtime on the Admin Lawns for a sausage sizzle fundraiser and activities supporting Children’s Ground.

🌭 $2 a snag
💛 Gold coin donations or EFTPOS accepted

Funds raised will help support First Nations children and families through the Children’s Ground organisation as we celebrate culture, connection and community during National Reconciliation Week.
