On Tuesday night this week we took delivery of our new 5-1 (light tanker) unit.

We’re planning on a hazard reduction burn in area once conditions are right to give us the opportunity to put it through its paces, but having gone through the features and improvements we are very impressed so far!

This evening for training we will be driving on some local fire trails in our fire appliances. We will have our beacons on for visibility and safety; please don’t be alarmed. It’s important that we are familiar with trails and access in non-emergency situations.

We’ve had a busy few days, starting with a car accident on Sunday. This was followed by a strike team and deployment on Monday to a bushfire at Tunnack. On Tuesday our medium tanker spent the day at Tunnack making the fire up there safe, then in the afternoon our light tanker deployed to a bushfire at Snug Tiers. Today the medium tanker is out again to Snug Tiers. One of our firefighters, Alex, has now been out on each of these days to help keep our community safe. As you’d imagine, he has been sleeping well in between. Thank you all for your efforts! Photo shows Alex, Les and Will preparing the appliances to make sure they are back in service, on their return from duty last night.

👩‍🚒 20 highly trained Tasmanian firefighting personnel are deploying to Victoria today to assist our interstate counterparts as they battle several bushfires across their state.

➡️ At this stage it’s anticipated the nine Tasmania Fire Service personnel, five Sustainable Timber Tasmania personnel, and six Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service personnel will deploy for five days.

🤝 Good luck team and thank you for your service.

ℹ️ This is a reminder for everyone to be prepared for bushfires. The best defence against a bushfire is being prepared, staying informed, and keeping up to date with information to stay safe. Know your risk, develop and practice bushfire plans, know how to access information, and review the Community Bushfire Protection Plan for your area.
