Evening Taree

Parts of the NSW Mid North Coast and the Hunter Valley will be on flood watch over the next couple of days with minor flooding possible from Thursday,
we ask that you remember these things to keep you safe and dry
- Do not drive into or enter flood waters as flood waters can move fast and can be deeper than they appear,
- If you’re going on dirt and unsealed roads they will be slippery and dangerous and could have large amounts of water run off causing ruts and unseen dangers as well as the potential for river crossings to be impassable
- if you’re going camping, it may be a good idea to postpone it as rising rivers could close roads causing campers to be trapped by flood waters.

If over the next few days you require assistance our colleagues at the NSW SES can be contacted on 132 500, if you are in a life threatening situation dial triple 000

UPDATE - This Flood Watch has been updated. Please refer to our most recent post. www.bom.gov.au

Minor flooding is possible along the Manning and Gloucester, Goulburn and Hunter Rivers and Wollombi Brook from Friday. Uncertainty remains in the location of the heaviest falls, and the Flood Watch area will be revised over the coming days.

Helping our neighbours

Yesterday taree brigade was activated to go to the burdekins road fire at Buledelah

Our crew on board Taree 7 was first called to a property while travelling to the designated staging area for a smoke sighting, thankfully it was just a concerned resident and our crew made sure all was safe and no need for immediate concern, our day got busy after this with taree 7 along with other RFS crews being utilised to perform property protection facing at times eratic fire behaviour and smokey conditions.

Into the afternoon and evening a tactical backburn was done with crews containing any flare ups and stopping any firies that had potential to pop up and be a issue

At 11pm Taree 7 and the bulkwater 2 of our members were also crewing headed home it was a pleasure working with RFS brigades who we sometimes don't get to work with on regular occasions along with RFS crews from our neighbouring district Lower hunter coming to assist.

Assisting NPWS at Hazard Reduction burn

Today Taree brigade provided a crew to assist National Parks and Wildlife Services at a hazard reduction. The day was spent conducting hazard reduction operations and assisting NPWS. Today was a great opportunity for one of our newest volunteers to get some hands on experience in a controlled environment.

In total RFS and NPWS crews burnt 108 hectares and reduced the fire risks by removing any fine bushfire fuels that pose a threat coming into this year's fire season.

Thankyou also to our colleagues at NSW RFS - Kundle Moto Brigade who also assisted with this HR.

Today is St Florian’s Day, a significant day for the firefighting community. Named after the patron saint of firefighters, it’s a time to come together and recognise those who have gone above and beyond in service.

While we extend our gratitude to all members for their ongoing dedication, today’s ceremony at the State Training Academy in Dubbo honours those who have demonstrated exceptional bravery and outstanding commitment to the Service.

We are incredibly proud to share that Captain Mel and Firefighter Keeley are representing Taree Brigade, alongside Deputy Captain Julie from Tinonee Rural Fire Brigade and Captain Bruce from Lansdowne Rural Fire Brigade, after receiving the Commissioner’s Unit Citation for Service for their response to the Kundle Moto truck rollover. Their actions reflect the teamwork, professionalism and care shown across all crews involved in a challenging incident.

We also acknowledge Firefighter James Hughes, who has been awarded a Commissioner’s Certificate of Commendation for his outstanding dedication and compassion in supporting a community member following the May 2025 floods. His continued efforts beyond the initial response embody the true spirit of service.

These honours reflect the strength, commitment and community spirit across our brigades, and we couldn’t be prouder.

Expanding our knowledge

While we had crews supporting the firefighting effort at Minimbah, we also had 3 of our members expanding thier skills

We had 2 of our members participating in the SFF course , this course is all about our volunteers learning about how to do internal firefighting in a structure, learning how to do door entry's on a structure impacted by fire as well as search and rescue techniques. They all did a great job and we wish them the best of luck in their upcoming assessment.

We also had Keeley who is also a member of our friends at Tuncurry Rural Fire Brigade successfully pass her crew leader assessment. This course is all about learning how to safely lead a crew in a variety of scenarios and situations, a congratulations to Keeley who has worked very hard to gain this qualification.

If anyone in our community is considering becoming a RFS volunteer in our brigade, we train Mondays at 18:00 at 28 Muldoon Street, Taree.🚒

Busy bees your local brigade have been.

Since Monday, Taree Brigade have been very busy. Monday and Tuesday, we have had crews at the Minimbah and Coolongolook fires. Yesterday, Taree 7 with a crew of 3 went back to the Minimbah fire. It was hard hot work, at times our volunteers were faced with erratic fire behaviour with multiple RFS crews at one stage participating in property protection, as well as containing spot fires with the assistance of aerial support. Today we have a crew going back out to the Minimbah fire to assist with firefighting efforts.

Yesterday, we also had members partaking in a Structural Firefighting Course.

Even though we are coming into the winter months, Taree Brigade is still recruiting and we would love to see some fresh faces! If you wish to help give back to our amazing community, we would love to see you! We train Monday nights from 5.30pm at our station at 28a Muldoon Street Taree.
