Join a lantern-lit walking tour to experience the Port Arthur Historic Site by night. Port Arthur can seem a very different place after sunset, full of mystery and intrigue. Unlike many other ghost tours around the world, visitors on our Ghost Tours have exclusive access to our World Heritage listed Site, so the atmosphere won't be shattered by crowds or traffic. Either way, the silence and soft g

low of the lantern light can sometimes make those long gone seem very close at hand. Bookings are essential, call us on 1800 659 101.

Once everyone leaves the building and the final brave soul has taken their lantern outside, why is it that some can still see a glow from the bedroom window?

Unexplained lights from the top floor are only one of the experiences shared with those taking in the Parsonage in the dark.

What might you see on a Port Arthur Ghost Tour this winter?

Across the world, countries are celebrating High Spring / Beltane (southern hemisphere) or Halloween / Samhain and honouring their ancestors and the spirits of those who have passed. However you do it, we acknowledge the thinning of the veil between worlds.

Paranormal presences and strange occurrences have been reported at Port Arthur almost as long as the settlement has existed, and the accounts keep coming,

The Riley and Shuttleworth story is a mainstay of our Ghost Tours and, rightly and gruesomely so, one that often ‘sticks in the heads’ of most who go on one (and for those of you who have, you will understand that line).
William Riley stood trial for his crime in January 1836. The jury took only minutes to decide on a verdict of guilty and he was sentenced to death, removed from the bar “without uttering a single sentence”.

See how speechless (or accidentally say something out loud) you get on a Ghost Tour - running Wed - Sat nights. Tour numbers are strictly limited and many tours have sold out. Check availability and book ahead at https://portarthur.org.au/tour/ghost-tour/

It was about this time on 16 Dec 1835 that William Riley took the life of a fellow convict, Joseph Shuttleworth.
It remains one of the most mysterious and grisly tales told on our Ghost Tours - not surprising considering the circumstances and method, but no known motive.

What's not surprising is that our night time tours are proving as popular as ever, with limited spots left over the holidays - grab your tickets at https://portarthur.org.au/tour/ghost-tour/

To make your time with us as comfortable and safe as possible, we have made some changes. All entry, tour and restaurant bookings must be pre-booked and we now require visitors aged 12 years and over to be fully vaccinated and wear a mask while on site.

Image description: A black and white image of part of the ruin known as the Convict Church, focussing on the large pentagon shaped gap of a former grand window of the back stone wall. The three spires poke into the clouds of the sky, however we know the sun is shining due to the slice of shadow created by the side wall onto the grassed area in the foreground.

On the final day of October, the veil between the living and dead is said to be at its thinnest, allowing communication with those who have passed on. Did it have to be 31st October for anyone here to see or speak to someone that was not one of the living at Port Arthur?

www.instagram.com/bctalk adding a cute little extra into a photo from their ghost tour, but not all of the ghosts are as friendly looking as this one!

Our ghost tours are still as popular as ever, so booking well ahead is well advised!
