Lake Indawarra | Closed โ›”๏ธ for Primary Contact Activities (5 June 2026)

Please be advised that in the interest of public health and safety, primary contact with Lake Indawarra is currently considered unsuitable for direct water contact activities, including ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ swimming, bathing and ๐Ÿ›ถ kayaking. People with compromised immune systems should avoid all contact.

Water quality testing has identified higher than normal bacterial readings in the lake. Regular water testing continues to be carried out, and once the water quality is within a safe threshold, Lake Indawarra will be fully re-opened.

We thank you for your patience with this matter, and will advise once the lake has been re-opened.

๐Ÿšง Wellington East Project Update from SA Water ๐Ÿšง

Weโ€™re pleased to share an update with the Wellington East community about the transition of water supply services from Coorong District Council to SA Water.

Our teams have successfully cleaned the existing raw water network, thoroughly scouring and disinfecting all water mains, including replacing all customer water meters.

During the coming weeks, weโ€™ll be undertaking comprehensive water quality testing before the supply can deemed safe for drinking.

Important information ๐Ÿšจ
- Although the water may appear clearer and cleaner, do not drink the water until all testing has been finalised. We will advise you when the water is safe to drink once testing is complete.
- You will need to run any taps connected to the water network for 2-3 minutes every few days to help flush out any remaining untreated or potentially contaminated water from your propertyโ€™s internal plumbing system.
- You will not be charged for water usage until the water network is officially transferred in the coming months.

If you have a fish tank, aquarium or fishpond ๐ŸŸ
- Please avoid using tap water during the water testing period as temporary water changes may affect aquatic pets.
- After this, remember tap water will still contain chloramine, so always treat it with a water conditioner before adding to your tank.
- Your local pet shop or aquarium specialist can recommend the right product and provide further expert advice.

Next steps โœ…
- Upon approval from SA Health, we will advise you when the water is safe to drink.
- We will confirm a transition date, which is currently expected to be the end of June, subject to testing outcomes.
- SA Water staff will read your new meters and set your starting point, which is when you will become SA Water customers and your first billing period will commence.

๐Ÿšซ Keep Wipes Out of Our Pipes ๐Ÿšซ

A Friendly Reminder for Our CWMS Community
Council is reminding residents that wipes should never be flushed down the toilet - even those labelled โ€œflushable.โ€ ๐ŸšฝโŒ

To help protect our Community Wastewater Management System (CWMS), please follow these simple guidelines ๐Ÿ‘‡

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐‚๐€๐ ๐๐ž ๐…๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ก๐ž๐
โœ… Human Waste: Toilets are designed for the three โ€˜Pโ€™s only โ€” P*e, Poo & Paper ๐Ÿšฝ
โœ… Toilet Paper: The only paper designed to break down safely in the system ๐Ÿงป

๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐๐„๐•๐„๐‘ ๐๐ž ๐…๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ก๐ž๐
โŒ All Wipes: Baby wipes, cleaning wipes, personal wipes โ€” even those labelled โ€œflushableโ€ ๐Ÿšซ
โŒ Sanitary Products & Paper Towels
โŒ Cotton Buds, Plastics or Other Non-Biodegradable Items

๐–๐ก๐ฒ ๐ˆ๐ญ ๐Œ๐š๐ญ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ
Wipes donโ€™t break down like toilet paper and can cause serious issues in your home and across the CWMS network, including:
โ€ข Blocked pipes and sewer overflows ๐Ÿ’ง
โ€ข Costly repairs and maintenance ๐Ÿ’ธ
โ€ข Damage to pumps and infrastructure โš™๏ธ
Flushing wipes can also lead to increased costs across the system and may impact service reliability for the whole community.

โœ… ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐’๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐ž ๐‘๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ž
BIN THEM ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ โ€” DONโ€™T FLUSH THEM ๐ŸšฝโŒ
Remind your family and visitors too!
By making this small change, youโ€™re helping protect our wastewater system, reduce costs, and keep our community running smoothly ๐Ÿ™Œ
