Ngurra Advisory is proud to have had the opportunity today to work with our clients Frost collective and Uncle Wes Marne AM, conducting our Storytelling Workshop.

Bigambul Elder, Uncle Wes Marne is best known for his storytelling and advocacy work in the Greater Sydney Region.

Uncle Wes shared stories of The Rainbow Serpent, How the Kookaburra Got His Laugh, and poems from his book Through Old Eyes.

First Nations peoples have used storytelling for thousands of years. It is how our people have recorded history, passed on knowledge, and kept our culture alive.

If you want to know more about our Storytelling Workshop with Uncle Wes, please get in touch with us at [email protected].

Congratulations to City of Parramatta Artists’ Studios, which has picked up one of the top gongs at the 2023 Local Government Awards, winning the Arts and Cultural Strategy/Plan of the Year for its First Nations Engagement Framework.

The Framework articulates a model for engagement, partnerships and co-design between First Nations Artists, Communities and Parramatta Artists' Studios (PAS). It seeks to elevate, recognise and celebrate the voices and aspirations of the local First Nations community by delivering key cultural infrastructure programming and events.

Ngurra is proud to have worked alongside Parramatta Artists' Studios on this project, facilitating the community consultation workshops, findings report and drafting of the framework.

Didjurigura (Thank You) to Shay Tobin and Jason Wing for the Wagan - Crow artwork, Indigico Creative for the graphic design, CoP and PAS staff, but most importantly, to the First Nations Artists, Curators and Community members for taking their time to participate in the Cultural Conversations Workshop and Survey. You mob have played a fundamental role in contributing to the future direction and improvements of First Nations participation and engagement in PAS programs and initiatives.

Last week we had the honour of joining Dharug and local community for a walk on Country around the Parramatta North Precinct.

Covering 42 hectares of Burramattagal Country, the Parramatta North Precinct is a whole-of-government, major urban renewal initiative which is essential to enable the vision for the Westmead Health and Innovation District. A lot of important yarns were had on the day around how Country should be cared for and the ongoing healing process that's underway for mob who have connections to this place.

A big thanks to the teams at Property and Development NSW and Jiwah for the opportunity to connect with community on this important project.

Last week, we had the pleasure of working with the Mirvac Customer Analytics and Insights team at the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce Djiyagiyulang-gal Enterprise Hub where we conducted a Storytelling Workshop.

The session kicked off with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony conducted by Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council, followed by an engaging session with respected Bigambul Elder, Uncle Wes Marne where he shared the importance of storytelling for our people, and he also read a few poems from his book ‘Through Old Eyes’.

We then moved on to an interactive “Connecting Stories” session and finished the day with a Native Bush demonstration and lunch with First Nations Chef Matt Atkins from Plate Events.

Mandaang Guwu (that's Wiradjuri for thank you) for having us Mirvac and a very special Thanks to Uncle Wes for making the journey from Western Sydney to be part of the day!
