Ο Γενικός Πρόξενος της Ελλάδας στο Σύδνευ κ. Γ. Σκέμπερης είχε τη χαρά να επισκεφθεί, την Κυριακή 14 Σεπτεμβρίου, το 12ο Let's Go Greek Festival Parramatta που διοργανώνει η Ενορία του Αγίου Ιωάννη στην Parramatta. Κατά τον χαιρετισμό του συνεχάρη την Αρχιεπισκοπή, την ενορία και τους συντελεστές για τη διοργάνωση του φεστιβάλ. Παράλληλα, κάλεσε τους Έλληνες πολίτες της Αυστραλίας που έχουν δικαιώμα ψήφου να εγγραφούν στους ειδικούς εκλογικούς καταλόγους, ώστε να μπορέσουν να συμμετάσχουν στις επόμενες εθνικές εκλογές της Ελλάδας.

Το φεστιβάλ φιλοξένησε χιλιάδες Έλληνες, και όχι μόνο, οι οποίοι επισκέφτηκαν τα δεκάδες περίπτερα, γεύτηκαν την ελληνική κουζίνα, παρακολούθησαν παραδοσιακούς χορούς και χόρεψαν με ελληνική μουσική μέχρι αργά το βράδυ.

Μεταξύ των επισκεπτών ήταν ο Πρωθυπουργός της Νέας Νότιας Ουαλίας Chris Minns, ο Δήμαρχος της Parramatta Martin Zaiter και οι ομογενειακοί υπουργοί Steve Kamper και Sophie Cotsis.

The Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Mr G. Skemperis, had the pleasure of visiting the 12th Let's Go Greek Festival Parramatta on Sunday, 14 September, organised by the Parish of St John in Parramatta. In his address, he congratulated the Archdiocese, the parish and all those involved in organising the festival. He also called on eligible Greek citizens in Australia to register on the special electoral rolls so that they can participate in Greece’s next national elections.

The festival attracted thousands of Sydneysiders, from both the Greek community and beyond, who explored dozens of stalls, tasted the Greek cuisine, watched traditional dances, and danced to Greek music until late in the evening.

Guests included the Premier of New South Wales, Chris Minns, the Mayor of Parammata, Martin Zaiter, and Ministers of Greek heritage, Steve Kamper and Sophie Cotsis.

✨Με ιδιαίτερη χαρά υποδεχθήκαμε χθες στο Γενικό Προξενείο της Ελλάδας στο Σύδνεϋ τους διοργανωτές και τους συμμετέχοντες του 12ου Διεθνούς Θερινού Πανεπιστημίου «Ελληνική Γλώσσα, Πολιτισμός και ΜΜΕ: Από τη Μνήμη στο Μέλλον», το οποίο λαμβάνει χώρα από τις 6 έως τις 11 Σεπτεμβρίου στην πανεπιστημιούπολη του UNSW.

Ακαδημαϊκοί, εκπαιδευτικοί, εκπρόσωποι των ΜΜΕ και φορέων από την 🇬🇷 Ελλάδα και την 🇦🇺 Αυστραλία συναντώνται στο Σύδνεϋ, σε έναν ουσιαστικό διάλογο που αναδεικνύει τη δύναμη της ελληνικής γλώσσας να γεφυρώνει σύνορα και γενιές.

Kαλή συνέχεια και επιτυχή ολοκλήρωση των εργασιών, με την ευχή το Σύδνεϋ να αποτελέσει σημείο αναφοράς για τη διοργάνωση και τα επόμενα χρόνια.

✨It was a great pleasure to welcome yesterday, at the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney, the organisers and participants of the 12th International Summer University, “Greek Language, Culture and Media: From Memory to the Future”, taking place from 6 to 11 September at the UNSW campus.

Academics, educators, media professionals and representatives of institutions from 🇬🇷 Greece and 🇦🇺 Australia have gathered in Sydney for a meaningful dialogue highlighting the power of the Greek language to bridge borders and generations.

We wish all participants a successful continuation and completion of the programme, with the hope that Sydney will become a lasting point of reference for this important initiative in the years to come.

🤝 Συνάντηση πραγματοποίησε σήμερα ο Γενικός Πρόξενος της Ελλάδας στο Σύδνεϋ, κ. Γιώργος Σκεμπέρης, με τον Καθηγητή της Σχολής Θετικών Επιστημών και Τεχνολογίας του Ελληνικό Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο ΕΑΠ - Hellenic Open University, κ. Αχιλλέα Καμέα, ο οποίος βρίσκεται στο Σύδνεϋ στο πλαίσιο της συμμετοχής του στο 12ο Διεθνές Θερινό Πανεπιστήμιο «Ελληνική Γλώσσα, Πολιτισμός και ΜΜΕ».

🎓 Κατά τη συνάντηση συζητήθηκαν οι προοπτικές ενίσχυσης της παρουσίας του ΕΑΠ στην Αυστραλία, και ειδικότερα η ανάπτυξη ακαδημαϊκών και ερευνητικών συνεργασιών με πανεπιστημιακά ιδρύματα της Νέας Νότιας Ουαλίας. Ιδιαίτερη έμφαση δόθηκε στην αξιοποίηση των προγραμμάτων σπουδών του ΕΑΠ για την περαιτέρω ενίσχυση της ελληνικής γλώσσας και της ελληνόγλωσσης εκπαίδευσης στην Αυστραλία, ενώ διερευνήθηκαν οι δυνατότητες συνεργασίας της ερευνητικής ομάδας DAISSy του ΕΑΠ με ακαδημαϊκούς και επιστημονικούς φορείς, ενόψει της σύνδεσης της Αυστραλίας με το Horizon Europe.🇬🇷🇦🇺

🤝 Today, the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Mr. George Skemperis, met with Professor Achilleas Kameas of the School of Science and Technology of the Hellenic Open University (HOU), who is currently in Sydney to participate in the 12th International Summer University “Greek Language, Culture and Media”.

🎓 The meeting focused on prospects for strengthening HOU’s presence in Australia, with particular emphasis on developing academic and research collaborations with universities in New South Wales. Particular emphasis was placed on leveraging HOU’s academic programmes to further promote the Greek language and Greek-language education in Australia, while opportunities for collaboration between HOU’s DAISSy research group and academic and scientific institutions were also explored, ahead of Australia’s association with Horizon Europe. 🇬🇷🇦🇺

🇬🇷 Το 12ο Διεθνές Θερινό Πανεπιστήμιο «Ελληνική Γλώσσα, Πολιτισμός και ΜΜΕ – Η Ελληνική Γλώσσα στην Αυστραλία: Από τη μνήμη στο μέλλον», άνοιξε επίσημα χθες τις εργασίες του στην Πανεπιστημιούπολη του UNSW στο Σύδνεϋ. Τελεί υπό την αιγίδα του Προέδρου της Ελληνικής Δημοκρατίας κ. Κωνσταντίνου Τασούλα και πραγματοποιείται με τη στήριξη της Γενικής Γραμματείας Απόδημου Ελληνισμού και Δημόσιας Διπλωματίας του Υπουργείου Εξωτερικών.

Χαιρετισμό απηύθυναν σήμερα ο Σεβασμιώτατος Αρχιεπίσκοπος Αυστραλίας κ.κ. Μακάριος και ο Γενικός Πρόξενος της Ελλάδας στο Σύδνεϋ κ. Γιώργος Σκέμπερης. Στην ομιλία του, ο Γενικός Πρόξενος προέβη σε μια ιστορική αναδρομή ως προς τα αίτια της εξάπλωσης και της συρρίκνωσης της ελληνικής γλώσσας ανά τους αιώνες, καταλήγοντας στο συμπερασμα ότι η διατήρησή της περνά μέσα από την ανάδειξη του πλούτου της πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς της Ελλάδας.

🇬🇷 The 12th International Summer University, titled “Greek Language, Culture and Media – The Greek Language in Australia: From Memory to the Future,” began its proceedings yesterday at the UNSW campus in Sydney. The event is held under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Konstantinos Tasoulas, and is supported by the General Secretariat for Greeks Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Today, greetings were delivered by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Mr George Skemberis. In his address, the Consul General provided a historical overview of the factors that contributed to the spread and decline of the Greek language throughout the centuries, concluding that its preservation lies in highlighting the richness of Greece’s cultural heritage.

👏 We wish the organisers every success as the programme continues and warmly congratulate the co-organisers, Professor Nicoleta Tsitsanoudi-Mallidi (University of Ioannina) and Dr Vasilis Adrachtas (UNSW), as well as everyone who contributed to making this important event possible.

🇬🇷🇦🇺 A warm and constructive meeting was held today at the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney, where Consul General Mr George Skemperis welcomed the Mayor of Randwick City Council, Councillor Dylan Parker, and Greek-Australian Councillor Alexandra Luxford.

🤝 Discussions focused on the vibrant Greek community in Randwick and opportunities to further strengthen cooperation, followed by an exchange of commemorative gifts, including the book celebrating 100 years of the Consulate General of Greece in Sydney.

🏃‍♂️🇬🇷From Greece to Sydney with 42,2 km ahead!

Today, we were delighted to welcome to the Consulate General of Greece, Sydney a dynamic group of Greek marathon runners who travelled from Greece to take part in the TCS Sydney Marathon 2026.

During their meeting with Consul General Mr. George Skemperis, the runners shared their passion for marathon running, their experiences from races around the world and their excitement about taking on the Sydney course.

The Consul General highligted the Consulate's role, the Greek - Australian community and the strong ties between Greece and Australia, before wishing the winners every success.
