Today is one of the most special days on our calendar – our Centenarians Morning Tea at Hazelhurst Arts Centre🎂🥳💯

Across the Shire, there are now almost 80 centenarians, with many still living independently – a true reflection of resilience, community connection and strong support networks.

Today we were joined by 30 of those remarkable centenarians – including Hazel Favell, who is 109 years young and will turn 110 next Wednesday!

This event has been a proud Council tradition for over 40 years, and it’s a chance for us to come together as a community to recognise the extraordinary contributions of our oldest residents, along with the families and carers who support them every day.

Days like today remind us just how important it is to celebrate our older residents and the role they’ve played in shaping the community we enjoy today.

to Taren Point, also referred to as Commons Point in the early days 🛥️

Enjoyed by fishermen, oystermen and some small-scale farmers, the population of the area in the early 1900s was small.

A road was established from the ferry in the 1910's to the main roads of Sutherland Shire. Public access was limited until a vehicular punt was established in 1916. In 1965, a bridge named for Captain James Cook opened and replaced the punt.
