Parliament of NSW

Parliament of NSW Welcome to the Parliament of NSW on Facebook. Here you can find out more about visiting and engaging.

The Parliament of New South Wales is the law-making body for the State of New South Wales and is Australia’s first and oldest Parliament. It consists of two democratically elected Houses, the Legislative Assembly (also known as the Lower House) and the Legislative Council (also known as the Upper House). There are 135 elected Members of Parliament in NSW and it is the responsibility of the Parliam

ent to hold these members to account. To find out more about how Parliament works, visit our website – www.parliament.nsw.gov.au. There are many ways in which members of the community can engage with the Parliament, and the aim of this page is to provide information about activities such as school programs and tours, public tours, art exhibitions, special events at the Parliament, visiting the precinct, viewing Question Time and much more. This page will be regularly updated with information about upcoming activities at the Parliament, as well as useful resources about the Parliament and its role in the governance of NSW. The Parliament welcomes comments from our audiences provided they are relevant, respectful and appropriate. Comments that are abusive, obscene, defamatory, harassing, discriminatory, incite violence or crime, infringe copyright, advertise commercial products or are otherwise inappropriate will not be allowed.

Smoke rising, flavours igniting - last night NSW Parliament House came alive after dark for Vivid Sydney ✨

In a sold out experience, guests stepped into a native feast born of fire, sea and land, journeying through Parliament’s historic spaces where art, storytelling and food came together.

🔥 Our Fountain Court erupted in smoke after Archibald-winning Dhungatti artist Blak Douglas introduced his exhibition 'Home Flown' on our Reconciliation Wall.

🍽️ Guests dined on a native-inspired menu while Clarence Slockee shared learnings on First Nations ingredients, the experience blending fine dining with contemporary Indigenous knowledge.

🎵 Highlights of the evening were impromptu performances by Clarence Slockee and Blak Douglas, bringing Country, culture and creativity to life in unexpected and deeply moving moments.

🪃 The night closed with a theatrical flourish and a surprise - one guest took home a hand-crafted boomerang by Blak Douglas, a powerful reminder of connection through art.

This was more than dining — it was a shared story. One that honoured NSW Parliament’s past while reimagining its future through food, culture and collaboration.

Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week 2026.

This year’s Reconciliation Australia theme 'All In' is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every day, not from the sidelines, but through action.

At the Parliament of NSW, the representatives of the people of New South Wales gather from various Aboriginal lands across the State. During this week, we reflect on how the decisions made within these walls can help foster a spirit of reconciliation and respect.

“Reconciliation is about coming together, listening to each other’s stories, understanding our shared history and building stronger connections across communities.” — Joe Stewart, Senior Manager, Aboriginal Engagement

🏫 From the classroom to Parliament 🏛️

We’re bringing interactive civics and citizenship learning directly into classrooms across regional NSW.

This week as part of our regional outreach program our Parliamentary Education team visited 7 schools across the Upper Hunter. This included Year 5 & 6 students from Muswellbrook Public School and Scone Public School Official Site who:
⚖️ Explored how government works
👩‍⚖️ Took on the role of MPs to debate and pass a bill
🗣️ Reviewed and voted on amendments like the Legislative Council

Students at Muswellbrook South were joined by the Hon. Ben Franklin MLC, President of the Legislative Council.

This immersive approach helps make democracy engaging, accessible and relevant, wherever students live.
