Protect Gough Whitlam Reserve and Waterworth Park

Protect Gough Whitlam Reserve and Waterworth Park Passive green recreational spaces in Sydney are few and far between. It is vitally important we maintain our open green spaces.

In 2015 Canterbury Council built a large playground in Gough Whitlam Park, Earlwood right next to a billabong with no community consultation whatsoever. To make way for this playground 9 mature Casuarina trees were removed. A playground could have been built away from this precious environment and there is a real threat to bird life and native animals being scared off by the activity of the flying

fox structure, climbing net and outdoor table tennis. Canterbury Council also pushed for a bicycle training facility again with no community consultation with more passive space being removed. They also planned to build an archery range in Waterworth Park when one already exists 4 ks away at Monterey. This page was created to protect the two parks from losing our valuable space for all can enjoy. To retain its integrity it is crucial Gough Whitlam Reserve and Waterworth Park has no further development where recreational space is removed. Our petitions have forced Council to ask for community consultation in a park plan of management. A draft master plan was developed by Canterbury-Bankstown Council (with community feedback) It is vital to ensures the sustainability of the Parkland. Once the green space is gone, it's gone forever.
