This event features the presentation of the biennial Lady Cutler Award for distinguished service to children’s literature. Lady Cutler was appointed in 1966 as the first Patron of CBCA NSW and continued as Patron until her death in 1990. And the 2026 Lady Cutler recipient is author and reading ambassador Deborah Abela.

This year we will be reintroducing THE MAURICE SAXBY LECTURE. Maurice Saxby was the first national president of the Children’s Book Council of Australia in 1958 and served as a judge for the CBCA Book of the Year awards. He was affectionately referred to as “the Godfather of Australian Children’s Literature.” In 2026 the lecture will be held in conjunction with The Lady Cutler award. We are excited to announce that Tristan Bancks, well known and highly regarded children’s author and staunch supporter of the CBCA, will be our guest speaker.
There will be food and refreshments, a Q and A and book signings.
