What do four-year-olds think about health and development checks?

As part of the NSW Government’s Brighter Beginnings initiative, last year the Advocate spoke directly with children about their experiences of free health and development checks in early learning settings.

Through play-based conversations, children shared what worked well and what could be improved. Their insights have informed a report featuring key findings and eight recommendations to help make the experience even better for children, because children’s voices matter.

In May, the NSW Advocate for Children and Young People made a submission to the Select Committee on Intergenerational Housing Inequity.

The submission has 8 recommendations and shares the insights and housing experiences of young people and families with children in NSW.

We know that housing is a fundamental human right and central for the development and wellbeing of children and young people. When children and young people cannot access safe, secure and quality housing, it impacts on independence, mental and physical health, and the ability to thrive in life.

To celebrate Youth Week NSW, the NSW Office for Youth invited young people to design a sticker that celebrates this year’s theme 'Dream. Dare. Do.'

We received hundreds of submissions to the competition from talented artists across NSW, which made the Advocate’s and Youth Advisory Council member’s job of selecting just nine finalists very difficult. Over the next few days, we will be announcing the winners in each age category.

We want to give a big round of applause to everyone who participated, it was a pleasure looking through and reading every single submission.

It is with great excitement that we announce the winners of the 12-15 age category:
