Fiji Trade Commission Australia Showcases Investment and Trade Opportunities at Gold Coast Business Networking Reception
The Fiji Trade Commission Australia has successfully delivered a Business Networking Reception and Trade Showcase on the Gold Coast, bringing together senior government representatives, investors, business leaders, tourism operators and industry stakeholders to strengthen commercial engagement between Fiji and Australia.
Held in conjunction with the arrival of Fiji Airways' inaugural direct service between Nadi and the Gold Coast, the event formed part of the Fiji Trade Commission's ongoing efforts to expand Fiji's economic footprint in Australia and create new pathways for trade, investment and business collaboration. The new route establishes a direct connection between Fiji and one of Australia's fastest-growing economic regions, creating greater opportunities for business mobility, tourism growth and market access. The service will operate three times weekly and add more than 53,000 seats annually between the two destinations.
Prime Minister of the Republic of Fiji, the Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka, addressed guests and reaffirmed Fiji's commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that welcomes international investment and supports private sector growth.
"Strong connectivity creates strong economies. Every new route creates opportunities for people, businesses and industries to engage more effectively, exchange ideas, build partnerships and unlock economic potential," Prime Minister Rabuka said.
The Prime Minister highlighted Fiji's long-term development agenda under Vision 2050 and encouraged Australian businesses to explore opportunities across a broad range of sectors including tourism, renewable energy, agribusiness, manufacturing, information and communications technology, health, education, infrastructure and the blue economy.
He noted that Australia remains one of Fiji's most significant economic partners and emphasised the importance of deepening commercial relationships through increased investment, innovation and business-to-business engagement.
The event provided an opportunity for Australian businesses to engage directly with key Fijian stakeholders and gain insights into Fiji's evolving investment landscape, strategic reforms and priority growth sectors. Discussions throughout the evening focused on building practical partnerships that support economic growth, regional cooperation and long-term prosperity for both nations.
Fiji High Commissioner to Australia, His Excellency Ajay Bhai Amrit, welcomed guests and acknowledged the strong people-to-people, trade and investment links that continue to underpin the Fiji–Australia relationship.
Fiji Trade Commissioner to Australia, Mr Daniel Stow, said the reception demonstrated the growing appetite among Australian businesses to engage with Fiji and highlighted the important role that improved air connectivity plays in facilitating commerce.
"The Gold Coast service is far more than a tourism route. It is an economic corridor that supports trade, investment, business travel and stronger commercial engagement between Fiji and Queensland. As Fiji continues to position itself as a regional hub for investment and business, direct connectivity remains a key enabler of growth," Mr Stow said.
The Gold Coast was identified as a strategic market due to its rapidly expanding population, growing business community and increasing international connectivity. The new service also enhances access between Fiji and key international markets through Fiji Airways' global network, further strengthening Fiji's position as a gateway to the Pacific.
The reception featured a trade showcase highlighting Fijian products, services and investment opportunities, while providing a platform for meaningful engagement between exporters, importers, investors, tourism operators and government representatives.
Attendees included Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Mr Paul Scurrah, Fiji Airways Chairman Mr Nalin Patel, Tourism Fiji Chief Executive Officer Dr Paresh Pant, representatives from government agencies, business leaders, investors, tourism stakeholders and members of the Australia–Fiji business community.
The Fiji Trade Commission Australia remains committed to creating opportunities that increase trade, attract investment, support business growth and strengthen Fiji's economic partnerships across Australia.
