It's World Environment Day - here's one from the archives! ♻️

During the Second World War, conserving resources was a necessity. Defence personnel embraced what we now call upcycling, finding creative ways to repurpose materials.

In one memorable example, members of the 2 Garrison Battalion crafted toys from scrap timber and donated them to the Legacy club in Woolloomooloo, NSW.

For more than 100 years, Legacy has stood beside the families of our veterans. That tradition was built not on grand gestures alone, but on small acts of generosity - everyday people giving what they could.

As EOFY approaches, a gift of any size helps continue that legacy of care.

Make your tax‑deductible donation before 30 June and keep the promise alive.

On this day in 1942, three Japanese miniature submarines launched an attack in Sydney Harbour.

One of the submarines sunk HMAS Kuttabul and the attack led to the deaths of 21 sailors on board.

It is National Reconciliation Week (27 May - 3 June), a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

This year's theme is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation.

Legacy acknowledges all First Nations people, including the thousands who played an important role in Australia's military history. We recognise their service and sacrifice.

Georgie was thrust into unimaginable grief when her husband Steven, a 43-year-old Navy petty officer and marine technician with 20 years of service, died suddenly from a blood clot in his lungs.

“I feared my daughter and I would be without any support or even a home, and I didn’t even know where to begin to ask for help.”

Legacy’s recent eligibility change removed the requirement for operational service, allowing us to support more veterans’ families.

And while Georgie and her young daughter, Sybella, came into Legacy’s care before this expansion, their story reflects the kind of life‑changing hardships that newly eligible families will be facing too.

Your support this tax time can help us ensure they are not alone 🩵
