Meet Kate 👋 a Kurrajong landholder who has been working with us for many years to help restore endangered Western Sydney Dry Rainforest along Little Wheeny Creek in Kurrajong.

Running cattle on the property, Kate has fenced off the riparian zone and installed alternate watering points to protect and improve the health of the creek and surrounding habitat 💦

Kate’s property is also providing important refuge for local wildlife. She has rescued a koala affected by chlamydia, which was rehabilitated by WIRES and successfully rereleased back onto her property. A platypus was also captured and surveyed by Western Sydney University as part of the Resilient Rivers for Resilient Hawkesbury Platypus Populations Project.

Kate is also a passionate member of the Kurrajong Koala Landcare Group and a familiar face at our events and activities. Her ongoing commitment to caring for Country and protecting wildlife is making a real difference for the health of our waterways and native species.

If you’d like to learn more about restoring waterways, protecting koala habitat or getting involved in local conservation projects, keep an eye on our upcoming events and workshops or get in touch with our team!

🤖 Artificial intelligence doesn't always have the answers and when it comes to managing land, the right answer isn’t always online.

💡 AI can be a useful starting point. It can help explain concepts and give you an idea of the questions to ask.

🌏 But land management advice needs to be local. What works in another country or climate may not work on your property.

The NSW Government’s Local Land Services team live and work in the communities they support, with a deep understanding of the landscapes, seasons and challenges across our region.

🧭AI can answer questions, but our team works on the ground. So before you ask AI, ask Local Land Services - if you have a question about your land, start with the people who know it best.

Hugh (Plant Biosecurity Officer) recently took 8 avocado growers to Port Macquarie for the NSW Avocado Forum, as well as running an integrated pest management (IPM) workshop with IPM consultant Andy Ryland 🥑

The forum covered a range of topics including effective pollination, growing robust avocado’s, emerging trends in pest and disease management and an avocado marketing update from the new CEO of Avocados Australia.

Some of the key takeaways from growers included the use of gypsum pre-flowering to optimise calcium uptake and exploring the introduction of beneficial biological insects to assist with fruit spotting bug management.

A big thank you to Andy Ryland for presenting and Tim and Elise Kemp for hosting the workshop at their farm 👏

This community engagement is funded by the Australian Governments Natural Heritage Trust and delivered by NSW Government's Greater Sydney Local Land Services, a member of the Commonwealth Regional Delivery Partners panel.

What a fantastic day at the recent Farming on the fringe forum at Hawkesbury Race Club, bringing together landholders, industry representatives and experts to explore natural capital and sustainable agriculture 🌱

From natural capital, carbon farming, environmental markets and soil health to practical insights shared by landholders, the forum sparked thoughtful conversations and real momentum for farming with nature.

A standout moment was hearing from Rachel Ward in conversation with Chris Bath, sharing her journey toward regenerative farming and the importance of working with nature to build resilient, productive landscapes.

Thank you to everyone who attended, presented and contributed to the day. Events like this help strengthen connections, share practical knowledge and support the future of sustainable agriculture across our region 💪

Meet Gab 👋

Gab is our new district vet, based in our Gosford office.

Gab brings a wealth of knowledge to our team with Bachelor of Science (Animal Health and Disease) (University of Melbourne, Melbourne) and Bachelor of Veterinary Science (James Cook University, Townsville).

She spent the first 3 years of her career in mixed animal private practice across Far North Queensland and has seen it all, though she’ll admit she gets the most fun out of working with ruminants 🐄 🐐

Gab is passionate about the vital role we play in upholding biosecurity and animal welfare standards to protect the sustainability of our livestock industries. She’s already had a busy first month hitting the field and connecting with the wider network at the District Veterinarian Association Conference.

We are thrilled to have Gab’s expertise on the ground to help support our local producers.

You can get in touch with Gab at [email protected]

Recently, Liam, our Natural Capital Advisor (acting) headed out to the University of Sydney’s May Farm to meet the next generation of ag leaders 🚜

He presented to over 120 first-year agriculture students, diving into the May Farm Natural Capital Profile.

The day was spent exploring environmental market opportunities and chatting about how natural capital can drive sustainable, productive farming.

There’s nothing quite like connecting with our future farmers and land managers on a working farm to see how research and reality meet.

If these students are any indication, the future of our industry is in very capable hands! 🤩
