Taliban spokesmen have announced that women should stay home if they do not have important work outside. And women should wear a chador and cover their faces, with male relatives facing penalties if they disobey. They claim these are orders from God, and their latest directives come on top of other restrictions on women, limiting their ability to work, go to school and travel. Dr. Shabir Ally expresses consternation at these statements and says they reflect a blind following of outdated opinions from those who are neither God nor God's Prophet.
