Every child deserves a childhood. 💛

Today, on World Day Against Child Labour, we stand alongside communities across the world in recognising the rights of all children to be safe, supported, and free to learn, play and thrive.

Child labour often reflects broader experiences of vulnerability, poverty, violence and disadvantage. As adults, communities and service systems, we all have a role to play in creating environments where children are protected, nurtured and given every opportunity to reach their full potential.

At Jannawi, we remain committed to strengthening the safety and wellbeing of children and families through culturally responsive, trauma-informed support.

Because childhood should be filled with connection, curiosity and hope — not hardship.

💛 Every child deserves a safe and nurturing childhood.

The Australian Child Maltreatment Study reminds us that childhood experiences can have a profound impact across a person’s life. Behind every statistic is a child, a family, and an opportunity to make a difference.

The study found that:
▪️ More than half of Australians experienced at least one form of child maltreatment during childhood.
▪️ Exposure to domestic violence was the most commonly reported form of maltreatment.
▪️ Many children experienced multiple forms of harm.
▪️ Childhood maltreatment was strongly linked to poorer mental health outcomes in adulthood.
▪️ Experiences of maltreatment significantly increased the risk of self-harm and suicidality.

These findings highlight the importance of prevention, early intervention, trauma-informed practice, and communities that prioritise the safety and wellbeing of children.

At Jannawi, we are committed to creating safe spaces where children and families feel supported, connected and empowered to heal and thrive.
Every child deserves to be seen, heard and protected.

🧠 The Science Behind Slime

Ever wonder why kids love making slime so much? It is more than just messy fun. It is actually a powerful, trauma-informed therapy tool!

For children who have experienced big stressors, traditional therapy through talking can sometimes feel overwhelming. That is where sensory play steps in.

Here is why slime is a therapeutic powerhouse:

✨ Regulates the Nervous System: Squeezing, stretching, and pulling slime helps release pent-up physical tension and lowers stress hormones.

✨ Grounds the Mind: The focus on textures, colours, and shapes brings kids safely into the present moment.

✨ Encourages Choice: Deciding on colors, glitter, and texture gives children a safe sense of control and agency.

✨ Builds Connection: Making slime together creates a low-pressure space for shared joy and open communication.

At Jannawi, we use evidence-based sensory activities to help children heal, express their emotions, and rebuild a sense of safety.

National Reconciliation Week May 27 🖤💛❤️

At Jannawi, we recognise reconciliation as an ongoing journey of listening, learning, truth-telling, and walking together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This week is an opportunity to reflect on our shared history, honour culture and community, and commit to creating a future grounded in respect, connection, and equity for all.

Reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility — and meaningful change happens through everyday actions, relationships, and conversations.

Together, we walk forward.

🖤💛❤️

Every child deserves the chance to belong 💛

At Jannawi, our Kids Support Programs help children and families experiencing financial hardship access opportunities many of us take for granted — sport, tutoring, music, creative activities, and school essentials.

For children like Mathew*, joining Judo meant more than learning a new skill. It meant friendship, confidence, inclusion, and feeling like every other child.

Thanks to community support through our Kids Support Program, Mathew was able to step onto the mat with confidence instead of missing out.

As EOFY approaches, your tax-deductible donation can help more children participate, connect, and thrive.

Together, we can help bridge the financial gap for families doing it tough.

Mathew* just wanted to join Judo like his friends 💛

But after experiencing the impacts of domestic violence, life had already become more complicated than any child’s should be.

For Mathew and his mum, Sarah*, financial pressure meant opportunities like sport felt out of reach.

Thanks to the support of our community, Mathew was able to enrol in Judo and receive his own judogi.
Now he’s no longer watching from the sidelines.
He’s learning new skills, building confidence, making friends, and simply getting to be a child.

For children recovering from trauma, activities like Judo can provide:
✨ Structure and routine
✨ Positive role models
✨ Confidence and connection
✨ Emotional regulation
✨ A sense of belonging

Healing happens in many ways — sometimes it begins with the chance to step onto the mat.

Mother’s Day can bring many different emotions.

While the day is often centred around celebration, we also acknowledge those for whom the day may feel difficult, painful, complicated, or lonely.

At Jannawi, we hold space for those:

💫 grieving the loss of a mother
💫 who cannot become mothers
💫 whose experiences of motherhood have included trauma or separation
💫 whose mothers could not protect or care for them
💫 those carrying complex feelings

Family and motherhood are not always simple, and every story deserves compassion and understanding.

To anyone finding it hard — we see you, and we are thinking of you. 🤍
