Introducing Constable Azer Nasirli for 🖐️
Azer Nasirli was born in Azerbaijan and spent his early childhood in Turkey before migrating to Australia in 2018. Upon arriving in Australia, he attended an English Intensive Language School, learning English from scratch and rapidly adapting to a new educational and cultural environment.
After completing high school, Azer joined the NSW Police Force in 2022 and commenced his policing career in General Duties at Liverpool Police Area Command. During his service, he responded to numerous critical incidents and was recognised for his contributions through the award of a Commander’s Unit Citation.
Alongside his operational policing career, Azer has pursued further professional and academic development. He is currently studying Juris Doctor (Doctor of Law), with a strong interest in the intersection of law, technology, and criminal justice. He has completed the Hate Crime Course delivered by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) in partnership with the NSW Police Force. This accreditation recognises specialised expertise in hate crimes, enabling him to provide guidance and support to colleagues in this area. ⚖
At the beginning of 2026, Azer joined Police Prosecutions Command, where he currently serves as a Police Prosecutor. In this role, he continues to develop his advocacy, legal analysis, and courtroom skills while contributing to the administration of justice.
Azer is currently engaged in research examining the use of artificial intelligence in policing, with a particular focus on discrimination frameworks, accountability, and the ethical implications of AI-assisted decision-making. His research interests lie at the intersection of law, technology, human rights, and criminal justice, reflecting his commitment to ensuring that innovation in policing is both effective and equitable.
