The blood red lines on the map of Tasmania tell the story. Roadkill, at a rate faster than a death every 2 minutes — shocking evidence of the state's reputation of being Australia's "roadkill capital".

A historic three-storey East Coast Tasmania general store, built in 1838, is set for a massive redevelopment, with the new owner unveiling plans to install a boutique hotel, new food and beverage outlets, and prestige townhouses on-site.

Watch out for traffic changes on the Tasman Highway at Paradise Gorge.

We will be resurfacing a section of the Tasman Highway at Paradise Gorge from Wednesday, 24 November 2021 to Thursday, 25 November 2021, weather permitting.

If you are travelling through Paradise Gorge, please allow for up to 10 minutes extra travel time.

The resurfacing is the final stage of work following the urgent removal of more than 2000 tonnes of rocks between May and July 2021. This work requires warm, dry conditions and with the weather warming up these works can now be completed.

The resurfacing provides a long-term fix after temporary repairs were put in place so that the Tasman Highway could be reopened after the major rock removal.

The speed limit will be reduced to 40 km/hr and one lane will be closed during our working hours, from 7:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Please keep to the posted speed limits and follow the directions of traffic controllers and signs.

We recognise the impact of the work at Paradise Gorge on the community this year and we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this final stage.

Should poor weather conditions cause the resurfacing to be delayed, it will take place on the next appropriate days during the week commencing 29 November 2021.
