Thinking about joining Victoria Police?
We all come from different backgrounds and all have our own reasons for joinging. Constable McKenzie arrived at the Kerang Police Station earlier this year. This is his story.

For anyone thinking about join Victoria Police, my advice is just give it a go. It can be challenging, but it is also very rewarding. Be prepared to work hard, keep an open mind and to take every opportunity to learn from the amazing members around you.
The best thing about the job is it has endless career opportunities, and I truly believe there is an option for everyone. Any skills or life experience you already have is valuable and will be warmly welcomed".

Live regionally and considering a career with Victoria Police? For the first time recruits will be able to complete their training in a regional location, with a new academy set to open in Mildura.

Recruits will complete the same 25‑week training program delivered at the Victoria Police Academy, with no change to classes or standards.

The aim is to support regional recruitment and retention and to create more opportunities for people with strong local connections, including those who have previously faced barriers to applying.

After graduation, officers will be deployed locally across Kerang, Mildura, Robinvale and Swan Hill, helping strengthen community policing where it matters most.

Did someone say:
✔️ Paid training?
✔️ Starting salary of $84,060 + allowances?
✔️ 9 weeks paid leave per year?

Yesterday, local schools celebrated "Thank a First Responder Day". The Beverford Primary School handed our members wonderful thank you cards and we enjoyed showing them through the vehicles and looking at fingerprints.
Another crew went out to St Mary's Sea Lake after being invited to a First Responder thank you sausage sizzle. They were given colourful thank you posters and the students explored the various vehicles. We have a bit of siren envy, the kids decided that the CFA Fire Truck had the loudest siren😁

Thinking about joining Victoria Police?
Constable Brown from the Kerang Police Station has shared information about her journey.
⏰How long have you been in Vic Pol?
I entered the academy gate in September 2024. I graduated in May 2025. I have been based in Kerang since. I was fortunate enough to have a direct start to Kerang as I know the area.

🚚What job did you have before joining ?
Previous to Victoria Police, I was working mainly in transport, hire and operations and logistics.

❓Why did you want to join Victoria Police?
I had always wanted to be Police officer, ever since I was a teen, but life had got in the way. I wanted to make a difference, support people, and help keep people and property safe. It was still on my to do list at 36. My husband and I chatted about it, and he said “I’ve got this- go do it!” So, I did, I’m so happy to be living my dream.

🤔Any advice for someone thinking about joining?
It's never too late and don’t let anyone tell you it is. If it’s what you want - go for it. Recruitment can be a lengthy process but it’s worth the wait.

🌟Best thing about the job?
I love seeing the kids faces when ever I drive the van past the kids at break time at school or in the street and the kids wave, giving the lights a little flash and waving to them, makes their day. It’s the best.

😆Most fun shift?
There's too many to mention!

There is a career expo at Swan Hill on Sunday the 14th of June.
Where: Swan Hill Club
When: 11am to 2pm
