The NSW State Emergency Service is an emergency and rescue service dedicated to assisting the community. It is made up almost entirely of volunteers, with 228 units located throughout New South Wales. The units comprise of approximately 10,000 volunteer members, who are easily identified by their distinctive orange overalls. While our major responsibilities are for flood and storm operations, the

NSW SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the State. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, bush search and rescue, evidence searches (both metropolitan and rural) and other forms of specialist rescue that may be required due to local threats. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales. The Service's trained rescuers also support the full-time emergency services during major disasters. The NSW SES also assists other emergency services when they are performing major operations. These services include the NSW Police Force, the NSW Rural Fire Service, the Fire and Rescue NSW and the Ambulance Service of NSW.

🌈 Stronger Together this IDAHOBIT Day 🌈

At the Sutton Unit, community is how we show up for each other and those we serve.

This IDAHOBIT Day, we reaffirm a simple message: everyone belongs at Sutton. Our diversity makes us stronger, and when our members feel safe, respected and supported, we work better together.

Inclusion is built through everyday actions — listening, supporting one another, using respectful language, and standing up for what’s right.

We stand against discrimination in all its forms and are committed to a welcoming, inclusive environment for all, including our LGBTQIA+ community.

Because when everyone belongs, we’re stronger together. 💛💙❤️

Our Monday night training was a bit special this week, with members welcoming the arrival of our new kitchen facility!

A great big thank you to Granite Transformations ACT for realising our dream.

This kitchen is more than some wood panels and a sink - it's the heart of our unit. This kitchen brings our members together whether for training or after a big night of being operational, making sure our team is well fed and energised.

It was wonderful to celebrate this new asset with special guests Daniel and Natasha of Granite Transformations and Councillor Alvaro Charry - Yass Valley Council. Thank you for your continued support of our unit, tucked away in little Sutton. 🍴☕

To the women who raised us, support and mentor us and continue to inspire us - thank you for all that you do.

In our unit, we’re lucky to have so many mums volunteering, with a selflessness they continue to give to our community. 🧡

This Mother’s Day, we wish all mums and other maternal figures a wonderful day. 🌸

We woke up this morning to the sad news of a tragedy in Ballina overnight.

Volunteers from Marine Rescue have paid the ultimate price while helping members of the community.

Our thoughts and prayers are with them and their families including other partner agencies involved in the boating incident.

Thank you for your service, Rest in Peace.

On Friday evening, four members from the Sutton Unit responded to a request for assistance from the NSW SES Moruya Unit following more than 100 incidents caused by severe winds on Friday and Saturday.

Our team, along with members from Goulburn, Shellharbour, Wollongong and Kiama were deployed to the Moruya, Narooma, Central Tilba areas, where teams assessed and completed jobs. The impact was significant, with more than 150 trees, predominantly large gums uprooted, causing substantial damage to properties, roads, and powerlines.

We are incredibly proud of our dedicated volunteers, who are always ready to support their fellow SES units and help keep communities safe.
