SGHS Student Researcher selected to present at National Conference.

Congratulations to Veronica from Year 11, who has been selected to present her research at the National Soil Science Conference in Perth later this year.

Following a blind peer-review process, Veronica's research abstract was accepted for presentation at Australia's leading professional conference for the agricultural and environmental science sectors. Her research, which explores ecosystem services and soil conservation, will be presented alongside the work of leading scientists and researchers from across the country.

Expected to be the only high school student presenting at the conference, Veronica's achievement is an extraordinary milestone and a testament to her dedication and passion for scientific research.

We cannot wait to see where this opportunity takes her.

SGHS Volleyball finishes 7th in NSW State Finals

The SGHS KO Volleyball team have come 7th overall across the top 20 public school teams across NSW in a tough two-day competition.
A fantastic finish for the team and an incredible achievement, especially in the team's first appearance at the state finals.

Congratulations to all the players on an outstanding tournament.

State Champions. Again. Building a legacy.

Sydney Girls High School has won the Hume Barbour Trophy, the most prestigious debating prize in NSW.
This is the seventh Hume Barbour State Championship for Sydney Girls High School.

The Premier’s Debating Challenge brings together some of the strongest senior debating teams from government schools across NSW. Reaching the State Final is an achievement in itself. Winning it is something special. To win the Hume Barbour Trophy multiple times over speaks to the depth of debating excellence at Sydney Girls High School and the proud tradition our debaters continue to build.

Congratulations to all our incredible debaters and their coaches. Seven titles. Decades of debating tradition. And another generation of brilliant debaters carrying that tradition forward.

Congratulations to Xenia and Alisha, two outstanding Year 12 students who were recognised with the Excellence in Student Achievement Award at the 2026 NSW Public Education Awards.

Presented during Public Education Week at Sydney Town Hall, the award recognises students who demonstrate exceptional achievement, leadership and commitment to their school communities. This prestigious honour reflects the dedication and excellence our students bring to every opportunity.
We are incredibly proud of both students for this well-deserved recognition and for representing Sydney Girls High School with distinction.

Sydney Girls High School was also proudly represented by Iris, Yu Tong and Tahlia who volunteered at the ceremony, welcoming guests and distributing event programs. Their professionalism and warm welcome helped make the event a memorable celebration for all who attended.

Sydney Girls High School students shine on the world stage at ISSDC

The Australian team was crowned the overall winner of the 2026 International Space Settlement Design Competition (ISSDC) in the United States, with eleven current and former Sydney Girls High School students playing key leadership roles throughout the event.

The competition brings together some of the world's highest-achieving secondary students to work in international teams on complex space settlement design challenges that mirror real-world engineering projects.

Although Sydney Girls students made up only around one-fifth of their team, they were elected to half of the available leadership positions. This remarkable achievement reflects the confidence their international peers placed in their ability to lead, communicate and work effectively under pressure.

Representing Australia at this level is an outstanding accomplishment in itself. To be recognised as leaders among an international cohort is a testament to the talent and character of our students. And then winning the event with their team is just phenomenal.

Congratulations to all eleven current and former Sydney Girls students on this extraordinary achievement. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented both Australia and our school on the world stage.

Our Year 11 Health and Movement Science students had the chance to sit down with Etasha Camage and Phoebe Trinh, both alumnae from the Class of 2021, who are now studying to work in the health science field.

Hearing firsthand about their experiences, pathways, challenges and successes gave our students a real insight into the many opportunities within the industry and the journey beyond school.

At our Lunchtime Careers talk in Week 9, students had the opportunity to hear from our alumna Dr Lucinda Luckett about her pathway into medicine, the opening of her own GP practice, and the many different directions a medical career can take.

Dr Luckett spoke about taking an unexpected path into medicine through an Arts degree at the University of Sydney, navigating uncertainty after the Global Financial Crisis, and working in consulting before realising she wanted a career with purpose and connection.

Students were especially interested in her reflections on resilience, flexibility and making the most of every opportunity. Her message was simple: not every pathway is straightforward, and that is okay.

Thank you, Dr Luckett, for sharing your experience and encouraging our students to stay curious, adaptable and open to where life may lead.

Welcome back to term 3.

After a memorable end to last term, including plenty of laughs during our Pie the Teachers fundraiser for Lou's Place, we are excited to see everyone back in school tomorrow.

We hope you have recharged during your holidays and are ready for new challenges, opportunities, and achievements. Here is to a fantastic start to the term ahead.

Lou's Place is a Redfern-based support centre for women in crisis, providing practical support, meals and a safe space for those experiencing difficult circumstances. As the organisation relies heavily on donations and community fundraising, our Social Impact Committee was proud to support such a worthwhile cause during last terms Spirit Week.
