Sunshine Coast Health Welcome to . In an emergency, call 000.

Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service (HHS) is located in south east Queensland and extends through the coastal and hinterland areas from Caloundra in the south to Gympie in the north. The HHS serves a population of around 390,000 people which is forecast to increase to around 480,000 by 2021 (an increase of 23%). This level of population growth is reflected in
current demand for services.

*

Around one sixth of the population within the HHS area (17.2%) were born overseas
* 3.3% of the HHS population speak a language other than English at home
* Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders make up 1.5% of the HHS's population - which is 3.5% of Queensland's total Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population. The Local Government Areas within the HHS area are the Sunshine Coast Regional Council and Gympie Regional Council. The Sunshine Coast HHS provides services through:

* Sunshine Coast University Hospital
* Nambour General Hospital
* Caloundra Health Service
* Gympie Hospital
* Maleny Soldiers Memorial Hospital

and a comprehensive range of sub-acute, ambulatory and extended care, community health, mental health and oral health services, and aged care services at the Glenbrook Residential Aged Care Facility. Over the next 10 years, the Sunshine Coast HHS will experience significant growth in both service range and capacity including the construction and commissioning of the new tertiary Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital (SCPUH) at Kawana, which will open with 450 beds in 2016 and expand to a 738 bed facility by 2021. SCUH will offer a range of new and expanded services for the Sunshine Coast, including a Skills, Academic and Research Centre on site.

Happy Father’s Day to ALL dads, ESPECIALLY those across Sunshine Coast Health. 🫶

Meet Sunshine Coast University Hospital’s (SCUH) dad and daughter Rob and Sophie!

Sophie joined SCUH as a Midwife this year, while Rob recently made a big career change from freelance design to become a Theatre Support Officer.

With Sophie now working in elective caesareans, their paths in theatre may soon cross!

“I’m not sure if I should call him Dad or Rob!”

Sophie is incredibly proud of her dad for having the courage to follow his desire to work with people and support his community. Rob loves doing everything he can “to put smiles on patients’ faces and leave a lasting impression.”

Rob is equally proud of Sophie for completing the extensive study and placements required to become a Midwife, and is inspired by her dedication to help others.

FUN FACT: mum and wife Sam also works at Sunshine Coast Health as a Medical Education Officer! She helped inspire Rob’s move into healthcare, encouraging him to begin as a Patient Support Officer.

We’re proud to inspire families like Rob, Sophie and Sam’s to contribute to the health and wellbeing of our community. 💛

We heard we’ve got some Falcon fans here! 🦅

BEHOLD: Operation Falcon SCUH live stream!

Remember Penny the Peregrine Falcon? What she lacks in nest building skills, she makes up for in SPEED. One of the world’s fastest animals has made Sunshine Coast University Hospital’s (SCUH) link bridge home. 🪺

Our friends at Downer have set up a live stream camera focused on her nest, giving us the opportunity to appreciate and observe one of nature’s most remarkable birds of prey in real time.

It’s rather extraordinary how our local wildlife continues to thrive along modern infrastructure, and through this stream, we’re able to follow Penny’s journey from incubation and egg hatching, through to the fledgling of young birds. An experience that is equal parts educational and engaging!

Your s*xual health is part of your overall health! 💛

And just like any other aspect of your health, it needs care.

Many s*xually transmissible infections (STIs) don’t actually cause any symptoms, so you don’t need to feel unwell to benefit from a s*xual health check.

You should also consider a check if you:

👉 Are s*xually active
👉 Have a new partner
👉 Have had unprotected s*x
👉 Develop symptoms
👉 Are concerned about possible exposure

To show you what to expect, we visited the wonderful team at our Caloundra Sexual Health Clinic. They offer confidential, respectful and non-judgemental care, talking you through which checks might be right for you.

📞 To make an appointment, call (07) 3542 5065
🚶‍♂️‍➡️Or, if no symptoms are present, you can opt to walk-in for a speedy screen between 8.15am-4pm.

TOMORROW IS JERSEY DAY! 👕

But what’s Jersey Day all about?

Jersey Day is a nationwide initiative raising awareness of organ and tissue donation — and it all starts with a simple conversation.

Why jerseys? 🏉

Jersey Day was created in memory of 13-year-old Nathan Gremmo, who donated his organs following a tragic accident.

Nathan loved sport, so wearing your favourite team’s jersey is a way to honour his memory and start a conversation about organ and tissue donation.

It’s simple, it’s free and it could help save lives. ❤️

So, get your favourite team’s colours ready and join us Friday, 4th September 2026 for Jersey Day!

HAPPY SPRING 🌺🌻

You know what that means? BABIES!

But does it though?

It’s a widely held belief that more babies are born in Spring. But according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, in Queensland, more babies are born in Winter. ❄️

The Sunshine Coast doesn’t subscribe to this trend though, with March being our busiest month. There were 312 births in March last year, and 248 births the month after, our quietest month.

Was your baby born with us? DM or email us a picture, we’d love to share more of our Sunny Babies ☀️

This is an old building. 100 years old to be precise! 😱

The Gympie ‘Baby Clinic’ opened in 1926 to provide care for our littlest locals, maternal education and preventative health services to improve baby and maternal health outcomes.

After 66 years, maternal and child health services moved to Gympie Hospital where it remains today.

NOW, the service has evolved to include child health nurses, school-based youth health nurses, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child and youth health workers, psychologists, social workers, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and dieticians. 🩺

It’s also one of SEVEN Child Health services that service our sunshiney region.

Keen to visit? You can self-refer by calling the Child Health Access team on 1300 591 494 or via any clinician. 💛

Clinical Nurse – Intensive Care Unit ✅

Human of Health Brett has been through A LOT and, apparently, knows A LOT!

"Bretto will know! Where's Brett?" is a daily hallway utterance.

Brett is the nurse that doctors, nurses, PSA’s and allied health all seek out when they want help or answers and is known around the unit as being able to explain, fix or troubleshoot ANY piece of equipment or physiological concept.

His repertoire of skills have served him and our community incredibly well in his capacity as a Clinical Nurse, where he leads his unit with humility and lends his technical smarts to the machines and consumables within the ICU, ensuring patients are able to receive the therapies and interventions needed.

His colleagues totally agree, describing him as a "truly phenomenal and firmly irreplaceable resource for the unit, the staff and each patient that comes through the doors.”

He continues to flex these strengths outside of work, and around family surfs, where he rebuilds classic vehicles and gets stuck into woodworking! 🚗🪵
