Heard about the NDIS changes starting this month, but not sure what they mean for you?

From 1 October, budgets for social and community participation supports are being reset as plans are reviewed or renewed. Daily living and essential care supports are not affected by these initial changes.

If your plan changes, you still have options. Your local Just Better Care office can talk you through what is changing, and private in-home support can help fill any gaps, arranged quickly and without a lengthy assessment.

Today is the International Day of Older Persons.

It is a day to recognise the knowledge, stories and contribution older Australians bring to their families and communities, and to remember that getting older should never mean giving up the life you have built.

For most people, that life is at home. Familiar routines, a garden, the neighbours, the local cafe. Our Community Support Professionals help older Australians keep living that way, with support that fits around them rather than the other way round.

To every older Australian who keeps showing us what a full life looks like, thank you.

Tired no matter how much you sleep? Shorter fuse than usual? Putting off your own doctor's appointments?

If you are caring for someone living with dementia, these can be signs that you need more support too. Many carers push past these signs, because asking for help can feel like letting someone down.

It isn't. You don't need to hand everything over to get help at home. It can start small, with a few hours a week, a regular visit that gives you some breathing room, or help with one or two tasks that have become hard to keep up with. From there, support can grow as needs change.

As Dementia Action Week draws to a close, the final article in our series looks at what real help for carers looks like and how to find it.

Here's something worth knowing: up to 40% of dementia cases may be linked to modifiable lifestyle factors.

That does not mean dementia is always preventable and it is never a reflection on those already living with it. But it does mean the everyday choices we make about movement, food, sleep, and connection genuinely matter for brain health.

Week three of our September series looks at the six pillars of brain health identified by Dementia Australia, and the small, sustainable habits that can make a difference at any age.

It is never too late to start.

Up to 40% of dementia cases may be linked to modifiable risk factors. Part 3 covers the exercise, diet, sleep, and connection habits that support brain health.

Today is World Alzheimer's Day, and the start of Dementia Action Week, which runs from 21 to 27 September.

More than 400,000 Australians live with dementia, and the number is growing. This week is about open conversations and better understanding, so people living with dementia are met with patience and inclusion, not stigma.

At Just Better Care, specialised dementia support helps people stay comfortable, safe and independent at home, with support for family carers along the way.

Not everyone can wait for government funded programs like Support at Home to get the support they need now.

Private, self-funded care lets you arrange support on your own terms, with no government assessment and no waitlist. Whether it is a few hours of domestic support, personal care, or transport to appointments, your local Just Better Care office can build a support plan around your needs and start when you are ready.

Choosing an NDIS provider is really about choosing the people and the goals behind the plan.

Your local Just Better Care office provides personalised in-home and community-based support built around your goals, from personal care and domestic help to getting out and taking part in the things you enjoy.

Do you know the early signs of dementia?

Many families look back and realise they noticed something was different months or even years before a formal diagnosis. A missed appointment here. A repeated question there. Small things that, in hindsight, were telling a bigger story.

Week two of our Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month series covers the signs worth paying attention to, and why acting early can make a real difference.

The sooner families get the right support, the better the outcomes tend to be for the person living with dementia, and for the people who love them.

What makes the work worth it?

Ask our team and the answer is rarely about tasks. It is the standing coffee catch-up a client looks forward to, the confidence someone builds getting back out into their community, the trust that grows over months of showing up.

Support work is flexible, local and genuinely people-first. If you are looking for work that means something at the end of the day, we would like to hear from you.
