🚨 SWAMP WALLABY HIT – BUDERIM MOOLOOLABA RD 🚨

9:45pm Thursday night on Buderim–Mooloolaba Road.
Another innocent life shattered. Another driver who couldn’t be bothered to stop.

A beautiful Swamp Wallaby left on the side of the road to suffer a slow, painful death. This is the usual story — hit and left. No call. No help. Just apathy.

We are beyond sick of it.

If you hit wildlife, own it. Pull over safely. Check the pouch. Call a wildlife rescue group immediately. One phone call can mean the difference between life and death — especially for joeys who may still be alive inside their mum’s pouch.

You don’t get to just drive away and pretend it didn’t happen.
Grow a backbone. Take responsibility.

Wildlife deserves better than this.

If anyone witnessed an incident or sees injured wildlife, please contact your local wildlife rescue group straight away. Time matters.

Meet little Cory from Coorooibah.

Early this morning his mum was struck by a vehicle and left on the side of the road with horrific injuries — both legs shattered beyond repair. Tucked safely inside her pouch was tiny Cory, quietly waiting.

Two compassionate members of the public found them and called us straight away. In the pouring rain, they stood with umbrellas over mum for nearly an hour until we arrived. We are incredibly grateful that there are still kind, decent humans willing to step up when it matters most.

Sadly, due to the extent of her injuries, mum had to be humanely euthanased. Little Cory is now on his way to Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital for urgent care.

Please slow down and watch for wildlife — especially in our local areas. One moment of inattention can change everything.

We attended a job this evening for a Swamp Wallaby hit by car in Beerwah. Huge shout out to Alex from Ray White Beerwah. Not only did Alex call Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital for assistance after finding the badly injured wallaby, he also waited 90mins for us to attend. Pretty certain he had better things to do on a Tuesday night. Absolute legend. Thank you

Please, please, please — if you find an animal in the wrong place at the wrong time, call a professional for help and advice BEFORE doing anything.

This is an all-too-familiar scenario.

A young kangaroo became caught in a fence sometime over the past week. A well-meaning person cut the fence and the kangaroo hopped away. Happy ending, right? Unfortunately, no.

Several days later, she was found lying in someone’s yard, unable to move. That’s when we finally received the call. The wire was still tightly wrapped around her leg, cutting down to the bone. The tissue had become necrotic and was leaking fluid.

If we had been contacted when she was first caught, we could have calmly sedated her, safely removed the wire, taken X-rays, and started antibiotics. She would likely be back with her mob by now.

Good intentions can still cause harm. Please, always call trained wildlife carers first. It can mean the difference between life and death.

This Common Brushtail Possum was just one of the hundreds of storm victims from SEQ. He was swept off the roof of a building, in Caloundra, into the downpipe and plopped out the end into a drainage pit. He was very cold, wet and flat when we found him.
Good news is, after a night at Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital he is good as new and took off up the tree before I could get a half decent photo😅

This morning, we were called out to Buderim for a pinky kangaroo found outside of its pouch. Pinkies—so named because they don’t yet have fur—are never seen outside the pouch, so we immediately knew something was seriously wrong. They also can’t climb back in once they're out.

When we arrived, we found him covered in ant bites and accompanied by his very distressed mum. These situations can be particularly risky because mothers are incredibly protective. Karl distracted Mum while I got her baby. The kind person who reported the situation has named him Teddy.

Teddy is now at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, where he’s being thoroughly examined. We hope to have an update later today.

Please be aware and share.
Our roos are on the move on the Sunshine Coast in high traffic urban areas, they are running out of room and onto our roads. What you do when this happens makes all the difference.

A huge thank you to the very kind gentleman that called her in so we could get the amazing team out to attend to her asap.

Also to the kind hearted gentleman that she ran out in front of, he stayed with us the whole time and made sure she was taken care of. 🙏

Another joey has come into our care. Crystal's mum was attacked by dogs while Crystal stayed safe in her dying mum's pouch.

A totally avoidable situation 😥

So now Opal and Crystal can keep each other company on their journey of growing into healthy Kangaroo's.

Earlier today I posted about the killing of three peaceful Kangaroo's here on the Sunshine Coast.

We took the surviving joey to Austalia Zoo Wildlife Hospital so she could be checked over by the amazing veterinary team.

Well, the young joey checked out OK and just had some minor scratches.

Her name is Opal and is very shy and we have her at home with the other fur kids...two Swamp Wallaby's and two Redneck Wallaby's.
