On Monday 9th March Sunbury Community Garden participated in the Sunbury Edible Garden Trail. We wer only open for two hours as we weren't sure what to expect and what we could support.
In the first hour over forty people descended on the garden in a constant stream. We attempted to show all these people all the differnernt aspects and programs we run at the garden. It was crazy, bloody hard work, exhausting, exhilerating, belief building, crazy again, energising meeting some many passionate gardeners.
We had a lot less in the second hour but we had two new gardeners through the program and a really good exsposure of the garden to the local community.
If you asked me at the end of the first hour - would you do it again the answer would have been no way but at the end of the second hour the answer would be hell yeah, bring it on again, soon.

Some people call me Tony have a chat.
Some people are less kind. So what let them be less kind cos Id rather just have a chat about gardening, seek and offer suggestions, work on building a community garden and orchard and a place to share produce, knowledge and more.
Frankly I hate Facebook and most social media as its a rabbit hole with no social contact. Im involved with a community garden as i believe in building communities, connecting with people not profiles. My favorite film is "Field of Dreams" but i dont want to build a field of dreams for retired baseball players, i want to be part of building the best community garden, not in Sunbury, not in Victoria, or Australia but the whole dammn Southern Hemisphere.

Join me in this quest.

Weve had a great response from our call out for new gardeners.

Weve a a good number of new gardeners join taking up garden plots to grow their own vegies and herbs..

Weve had lots of interest from others but while theyve demonstrated a high level of interest they have not completed the process of joining yet.

There are still plots available and possibly some becoming vacant.

Even if you cant get a plot in the short term we have options and other programs. We have a large communal plot that we can possibily subdivide short term.

We have an orchard of over fifty fruit trees mostly heritage varieties. This years the pears are in abundance and the apples look to follow likewise. We are seeking people interested in helping us this year to maintain the orchard and next year to expand the orchard and plant an extensive range of new trees etc next year.

Sunbury Community Garden
We are a community garden in Sunbury. One of four community gardens established and run by Hume Council.
No joining or ongoing fees.
The garden was established in 2012 and has excellent facilities but most of the local community is unaware that the garden exists.
We are basically on the site where the Rolling Meadows estate sales office was.
Over 30 individual plots. A large communal plot and another large plot supporting local charities. An orchard with approximately 50 fruit trees. BBQ facilities under cover and a clubhouse.
There is a childrens gardening program run at the garden and monthly produce swaps.

And a person trying to promote the garden who hates Facebook aka me. So If you like FB and gardenening please call me.

Plots are available now. FB is not a requirement.
We welcome members at all levels, novice or skilled and love sharing and learning more about gardening.

Call me (Tony) on 0425786524 or reply on fb.

We are very excited to see the Sunbury Community Garden expand, with more garden beds, more growing and more kids getting their hands dirty!

We are very excited to announce that the Sunbury Children's Garden will soon be getting an upgrade thanks to the generous support of Sunbury Connected Communities. We will be installing raised wicking beds, seating, and bird baths. Once the beds are set up and filled, it'll be time for the Little Ladybirds to get their hands dirty and get planting.

We'd like to say a huge thank you to Sunbury Connected Communities for making this possible!
