City of Marion

City of Marion Stretching from the Glenelg tramline in Glandore to the coastal suburb of Hallett Cove. All this against a backdrop of hills, open space and the coast!

The City of Marion is one of the stateโ€™s larger metropolitan councils and is located 10km south of Adelaide stretching from the Glenelg tramline in Glandore to the coastal suburb of Hallett Cove. Covering an area of about 55 km sq, the city has a population of approximately 85,000 residents and features 7km of coastline. Marion's population is showing healthy growth, due in part to overseas migration which welcomes newcomers from countries such as the United Kingdom, India, China, the Philippines, the eastern countries of Africa and many others. Being only a 20 minute drive to the southwest of Adelaide, the City of Marion offers easy access to a mix of ecological, cultural, sporting, leisure and shopping experiences. Lifeโ€™s ups and downs happen to all of us.

You don't have to be an expert to have a meaningful R U OK? conversation. Listening and giving someone your time might be just what they need to help them through.

Ask R U OK because a conversation could change a life.

The Great Aussie Fungi Hunt has come to an end! ๐Ÿ„

Our citizen scientists recorded 112 observations across the City of Marion during July - more than triple last yearโ€™s 32 observations!

We were especially pleased to see the Vermilion Amanita (๐˜ˆ๐˜ฎ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ข ๐˜น๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฐ๐˜ค๐˜ฆ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฉ๐˜ข๐˜ญ๐˜ข) recorded in Marion for the first time, along with a beautiful purple Cortinarius. ๐Ÿ’œ

Across Australia, more than 54,000 observations were recorded!

Thanks to everyone who got involved and helped us discover more about Marionโ€™s fungi. Explore the observations here: https://brnw.ch/21x5xNl

Today is National Threatened Species Day and an important reminder that we all play a part in protecting the incredible wildlife that calls Marion home. ๐ŸŸ๐ŸฆŽ

Did you know 500 critically endangered Purple-Spotted Gudgeon were released into our very own Oaklands Wetlands in 2021?

Aquatic ecologists will be at Oaklands Wetlands this week undertaking fish surveys to discover more about the health of the Purple-Spotted Gudegon population.
