HAVE YOU got some ideas to share about Stroud’s upcoming bicentenary celebrations? Please come along to Stroud Courthouse tomorrow morning for the Society’s AGM and general meeting where you’ll meet like-minded community members. Morning tea from 9.30am, meeting starts at 10am. Everyone welcome! Please rsvp to [email protected] if you can. Hope to see you there!

DID YOU KNOW that Stroud will be celebrating its bicentenary in just 3 years? The village of Stroud was founded in November 1826 by Robert Dawson, the Australian Agricultural Company’s first Australian chief agent. He chose the site where the Karuah River and Mill Creek meet, naming it Stroud as it reminded him of the Cotswold countryside. Dawson described the site as '...beautiful and picturesque, consisting of low undulating hills. I thought at the time I had never beheld so sweet a spot.'

We are a reflection of the community in which we live.
We are a small Unit that is comprised of some members who have full time jobs, others are retired, one drives a school bus, two are doing their HSC this year.
We suffer loss and tragedy. We share the pain and celebration of our neighbors. We experience happiness and love with our families and friends.
We train, equip and prepare in order to respond to calls for help across our community and other communities within NSW and beyond.
We are proud to be members of the Stroud Unit of the NSW SES.
We hope you will spare a moment today to think of your local SES members as they go about their normal lives but are ready to step up and assist when called.

DID YOU KNOW that the grandstand at the Stroud Showground was erected nearly a century ago to commemorate those from the district who served in World War 1?

The free-standing cement wall at the base of the grandstand is listed on the NSW War Memorial Register. Attached to the front of the wall are three white marble tablets. The centre tablet is inscribed with the dedication ‘A tribute of respect and gratitude to those who fought, served and fell in the Great War 1914-1918’. The other two tablets are inscribed with names of men and women from the Stroud region who served in the Great War. Replicas of these plaques can be found at Stroud Cenotaph.

Society representatives will lay wreaths at both the Stroud Cenotaph and the memorial grandstand this Anzac Day.

STROUD ANZAC DAY SERVICES 2023: Dawn Service, 5:45am @ Stroud Cenotaph; March and Service, 8.30am @ Stroud Cenotaph (assemble 8am on corner of Cowper St and Memorial Ave). BYO chair if required.
