A big thank you to Nimbin CWA for their recent donation of funds to the tune of $500 to Stony Chute Rural Fire Brigade and also to Nimbin and Blue k**b brigades of the same value each.

These funds have already been put to use at Stony Chute RFB with the purchase of new first aid kits for our new truck replacing our old and outdated first aid kit.

Many thanks to CWA for their donation and continued support of our local RFS Brigades.

Some useful info

NSW SES has received more than 1,500 calls related to sandbagging and preparation, demonstrating that the community is taking steps to protect their properties 🙌

Our deployed teams are arriving in Northern NSW ready to assist communities and support the local SES units.

We have currently deployed:
🔸 2 helicopters
🔸 2 Cells on Wheels
🔸 1 high clearance vehicle at Lismore
🔸 1 high clearance vehicle at the Mid North Coast

This morning, a further fifty-two SES volunteers from Units across the Sydney Metropolitan zone (including Auburn, Bankstown, Blacktown, Camden, City of Sydney, Hornsby and Liverpool) departed in 15 different trucks, bound for Northern NSW.

Interagency teams from Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Police Force, NSW Rural Fire Service and other emergency services personnel are also being coordinated to help with the response effort.

We have also established Incident Management Teams at Goonellabah and Metford and have now opened the State Command Centre.

18 community meetings are planned for today and tomorrow in the region and NSW SES personnel will be visiting caravan parks this afternoon to alert them of the risks.

Please ensure you are preparing early as cyclones are extremely unpredictable and it is important that residents are prepared for every scenario.

Today, 17 Local Government Areas (LGA) commence their Bush Fire Danger Period. With one area, the Snowy Monaro region beginning the danger period one month earlier than normal due to prevailing dry conditions.

Residents and land holders should ensure they understand the rules around the use of fire. Along with required fire permits, you must also notify your local fire authority and neighbours of your intent to burn at least 24 hours in advance.

Know the risks for your area, have a bush fire survival plan and know what you'll do if threatened by fire. For more information, visit to the website: www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/BFDP

SEVERE WEATHER - ADVICE
MONITOR CONDITIONS
The NSW SES advises people in the following area(s) to MONITOR CONDITIONS for forecast heavy rainfall:
- Lismore
- Byron Bay
- Ballina
- Evans Head
- Yamba
- Maclean

WHAT WE ARE EXPECTING?
The Bureau of Meteorology advises that a trough of low pressure with a moist and unstable airmass has triggered deep and persistent showers in the Northern Rivers this morning.

HEAVY RAINFALL which may lead to FLASH FLOODING is forecast for the Northern Rivers. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 40 to 80 mm are likely with isolated totals up to 150 mm possible.

Currently, rain is occurring across the Northern Rivers and is expected to persist until this afternoon.

This event may change quickly. We will monitor the situation and update our warnings if the situation changes.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
- Avoid unnecessary travel, move indoors, bring children and pets with you.
- Park your car under secure cover and away from trees, powerlines and drains.
- If safe to do so, secure or put away items, such as outdoor furniture, trampolines and roofing iron that could blow around in strong winds.
- Grab your emergency kit in case you lose power or need to leave your home.

06/08/2024

There's a bit of smoke blowing towards the Lismore area - it's from the hazard reduction burn at Evans Head. The winds are currently from the SSE, which means it's heading towards Lismore and beyond.

19/07/2024

With extremely strong winds forecast across NSW over the coming days, it's important landholders and residents monitor their pile burns closely or even consider postponing them.

The winds are expected to arrive this afternoon and continue throughout the weekend, so we are asking everyone to revaluate the use of any outdoor fire.
