Paul's Place Wildlife Sanctuary - Kangaroo Island

Paul's Place Wildlife Sanctuary - Kangaroo Island Welcome to Paul's Place Paul’s Place is a unique look at Australian wildlife. Animal enclosures are large and the majority are walk through.

If you think you have seen all the parks, you will be amazed with this totally different concept which is funfilled and unforgettable. The focus is on mainly handraised animal who enjoy human contact and the tour as much as you. Paul’s Place is famous for it’s animal and people friendly approach. Entertaining and informative with something special to offer anyone of any agegroup with a sense of hu

mour. Paul’s Place has been open to the public for 25 years. Paul began rescuing orphaned, injured and unwanted animals as a child. When the collection grew to such an extent that people came by often to see the menagerie, he decided he may as well open officially. The sanctuary has continued to this day and animal rescue is the reason there is such a weird mixture of critters to be found here. Paul’s Place receives no funding or sponsorship of any kind and admission fees pay for milk formulas, feed, veterinary bills and all equipment necessary to raise/rehabilitate wildlife as well as domestic animals.. Discounted admission is available when you stay 3 or more nights at Waves and Wildlife

Sometimes its good to just get away for half a day. This weekend we are helping good friends move straw & hay. They’ve helped us during the past year, and now we feel we can do something nice for them in return.

On the 1st anniversary of the loss of our home due to the horrific fires we paid tribute at the site of the house that Paul built. The replacement is still in the planning stage, and we have no firm date for rebuilding. Thanks to all that wish us well, have contributed to the GoFundMe organised by Kai. We are still plodding away doing the bare basics, fencing, shearing, feeding and caring for the animals. With the Covid-19 pandemic it has made our repairs & rebuild a lot harder and slower task. But we look forward to 2021 bringing better luck & a bright future for us here on beautiful Kangaroo Island. in the background you can see the fire scorched trees and the small piece of the original building that was okay to keep. It is just part of the garden wall.

Its been a long time since we posted anything.

In the past few months we have continued with help to repair aviaries, kangaroo enclosures, feeding and caring for our animals each day. As well Paul has had a lot of fencing to replace as all boundary fencing was damaged or destroyed in the fires. I believe something like 30kms of fencing. The photos are to show some of the terrain they have to deal with to contain the stock. Its certainly not easy. BlazeAid have helped as well as visitors and good friends. We won't start naming them in fear of missing someone and there as just so many the list is long.

It is still a long road to recovery. We have had a few losses. Some of our beloved animals have crossed the rainbow bridge. At this time we can't bring ourselves to say more than that.

We are all very cautious with the current Covid-19 danger. We think we are very lucky to be here isolated on beautiful Kangaroo Island. Even after such devastation it holds so much beauty. You can see the trees are still scorched, but the green shows through. If you look closely in the first photo you can see Paul and friend stapling the wire to the posts. It was just a little too much for Paul to do on his own. The ash is still laying on the ground and when wet makes it very slick. Both John & Paul almost went a$$ up navigating the steep slope.

With the year 2020 more than half over let's look toward a bright future.
Thanks to all that have given, money-wise, time-wise, emotional-wise. We are very thankful. 💞💞
