HELP US LAUNCH A NATIONAL BULLYING ADVICE LINE β
Some victims of bullying are so tormented that su***de has become their only option. Allem Halkic, was one such victim who at the tender age of seventeen, took his own life after being harassed online.
Allemβs tragic story, amongst others, was the catalyst to launching Bully Zero in 2013. The extent of the desperation faced by many parents was highlighted in a recent report in which key findings highlighted:
- Australian parents are crying out for more help to address and prevent childhood bullying as research shows one in five report one or more of their children was bullied in the last school term.
- Almost every parent (89%) of a child who was bullied said the experience had affected the whole family.
- One in six parents had felt physically sick, and one in five felt depressed or anxious.
- Almost half (48%) worried about the long-term effects of bullying on their child, while many were angry (44%) and frustrated at being unable to help (44%).
- One in three (32%) felt guilty for not being able to stop the bullying while one in four felt helpless (28%).
Whilst there are an array of counselling helplines and online resources that victims of bullying can access such as Kids Helpline, Lifeline, Beyond Blue, none of these services specialise in bullying or provide broader support, information or guidance to young people and adults on what action they can take to help them address the bullying they, or their children, are facing.
With your help, Bully Zero will create the only National Advice Line specialising in bullying prevention. We also plan to develop an App for all members of the community with information, resources and videos to support those experiencing bullying.
We will partner with crisis and counselling helplines to ensure those requiring these services are appropriately referred and supported.
During National Bullying Prevention Week, Bully Zero is launching our "Cyberbullying Hurts too" campaign to raise $15,000 to help develop and launch the National Advice Line and App.
