On Monday evening, our firefighters came together for the Stirling CFS Xmas Party. It was a chance to pause and recognise the incredible commitment of our volunteers and the time, skill and heart they give to our community throughout the year. We’re also grateful to our local businesses for their generosity in donating food and drinks. Your support helps make nights like this possible.

A special mention goes to Marshi’s Kitchen for their incredible generosity, along with La Viennese Gelato, Wotton Family Wines, Stirling Bakery, Stirling Chickens, Foodland and BWS.

A great way to wrap up the year together.

Stirling crews are at the Stirling RSL polling booth today. Come and take a look at some of our equipment, and have chat about fire safety or perhaps volunteering with us.

We are accepting donations to cover additional training and equipment - and even have PayWave!

Today on International Firefighter’s Day, known as St Florian’s Day, we reflect on the sacrifices firefighters make on a daily basis and thank them for their efforts to keep our communities safe.

We also congratulate recipients of CFS Chief Officer Awards and National Medals, presented to CFS members by Chief Officer Brett Loughlin AFSM, to recognise their outstanding actions for fire service duties, leadership, and exemplary performance.

In just the last 2 years, South Australia has experience some of the worst bushfires in our history with 7 major fires killing 3 people, destroying hundreds of homes, structures and vehicles plus thousands of livestock!

The heroism of CFS volunteers fighting these blazes helped save more than 1500 properties. They provided a significant economic benefit to South Australia by protecting homes, businesses and jobs as they do every year.

The media tend to report what was lost and what was damaged, but the better story is how much didn’t get lost or didn’t get damaged through the efforts of our CFS volunteers.

VALE – ALFRED SEAMAN
12/06/1941 - 17/11/2021

Sadly we lost a long standing member of the brigade last week - Al Seaman passed away at the age of 80.

He had been unwell for some time but was battling it with the same determination he used at the many fires he attended over his more than 50 years as a firefighter.

He joined Stirling on 13 Nov 1967 and in the ensuing 54 years served as committee chair from 1983-87 and as a senior firefighter for many more years.

He was awarded the National Medal in 1985 and a 2nd clasp in 1996. Life Membership followed in 2007 and in 2018 he was awarded a 50 year clasp for his Service Medal.

He was a mentor to many of us. Always thoughtful, realistic, challenging and above all else committed.

He spent a lot of time in fundraising activities and would often turn up on a Monday night offering to fix something or provide some advice. In fact he just kept turning up to do things and I’m sure many of us will now treasure the odd little chats we would have.

It has been a privilege to have him as part of the crew.

Our thoughts are with Jan and family.

It is with much sadness that the brigade notes the passing of our member Rick Millard.

Rick was our equipment officer, senior firefighter and bottle-shed organiser. He contributed countless hours to the brigade in many different capacities. He attended hundreds of callouts, sorted bottles every week, built lockers for our turnout gear, laid carpet, painted walls... If Rick saw something that needed doing he would do it.

Rick, you will be greatly missed. Thankyou for your service - the place just won't be the same without you.
