Hi all,
The first phase of our plan to significantly reduce high fuel loads along Old Stanley Road was successfully completed yesterday, with the support of crews from Stanley and neighbouring brigades across the district. A big thank you to everyone involved in preparing for and conducting the burn - their effort and professionalism made this a safe and effective operation. Thanks also to the Stanley residents adjacent to the site who bore the brunt of the smoke and traffic - I can assure you we worked to complete the work as quickly as possible.
This section of road is particularly important, carrying telecommunications and electricity infrastructure into Stanley, and serving as a backup access route to and from Beechworth in emergencies.
During preparation works, there was an incident that resulted in a power outage, which we recognise had an impact on the community, particularly local businesses. We understand the inconvenience this caused and appreciate everyoneβs patience. The circumstances around the incident are being reviewed.
The burn itself achieved its objectives and is part of an ongoing effort to reduce fire risk across the Stanley area.
