One of the things I love most about this time of year is seeing our classrooms spill out into the wider world. While so much important learning takes place within the four walls of our classrooms each day, some of the most memorable and powerful educational experiences happen when students have the....

Don't forget our Mother's Day breakfast from 8am tomorrow!

Dear SKiPPS Community, Last week’s State Budget included almost $300 million in upgrades for Victorian public schools. While many neighbouring schools received major funding commitments, SKiPPS once again missed out. This was deeply disappointing. For more than a year, School Council and staff hav...

To conclude a truly memorable week in Canberra, our final stop was the Australian War Memorial.

After spending the week learning about politics, democracy and how decisions are made in our country, it was a fitting way to finish by taking time to reflect on and honour those Australians who have served, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms and way of life.

A real highlight, and a moment our students will not forget, was being invited to take part in the Last Post Ceremony. Two of our Year 6 leaders had the honour of laying a wreath as part of this deeply moving tribute.

It was a powerful and respectful way to bring our camp to a close, and our students represented the school with great maturity throughout.

A truly special experience for our campers today as we visited Government House, the official residence of the Governor-General.

We were incredibly honoured to be welcomed for a private audience with Her Excellency Sam Mostyn, who spoke with our students about her unique role and the responsibilities of representing Australia. It was a fantastic opportunity to bring our learning about government to life in a very real and memorable way.

An added highlight of the visit was seeing two of our students represent SKiPPS by leaving a message in the official visitor register on behalf of our school.

Did you know? Sir Zelman Cowen, who served as Governor-General from 1977 to 1982, attended St Kilda Park Primary School as a child. A wonderful connection that made today’s visit even more meaningful.

This morning, our Year 5/6 campers had the opportunity to visit Parliament House – the home of Australian Government.

Students explored both the House of Representatives and the Senate chambers, learning about how each operates and the important role they play in shaping our nation. It was fantastic to see students making strong connections to their learning around democracy and how decisions are made in Australia.

The highlight of the visit was taking part in a hands-on role play session, where students stepped into the shoes of Members of Parliament. They took on different roles within the House of Representatives, debated ideas and worked together to pass their own bill. There were some passionate arguments, thoughtful contributions and a great deal of enthusiasm throughout.

A brilliant way to wrap up the learning side of what has been an outstanding week in Canberra.
