St Andrews CFA

St Andrews CFA St Andrews CFA is a volunteer fire brigade protecting lives and properties in St Andrews and the surrounding communities from fire and other emergencies.

**CURRENTLY RECRUITING** - read below

The St Andrews Fire Brigade is a fully volunteer Country Fire Authority brigade located in St Andrews, Victoria. We respond to fires and other incidents within our local area including the townships and surrounds of St Andrews, Smiths Gully and Cottles Bridge. We also provide support to our neighbouring brigades in the towns of Kinglake, Panton Hill, Christma

s Hills, Hurstbridge, Arthurs Creek and Strathewen.

-MEMBERSHIP-

The brigade is currently looking for new recruits from all walks of life who are interested in becoming a volunteer and helping us to protect the community. You don't have to fight fires, there are non-operational roles within the brigade including community education and communications. We also have a Friends of the Fire Brigade group (like an Auxiliary) who provide us with wonderful catering support as well as organising fundraising activities and other brigade events. If you're interested in joining either as an operational or non-operational member, drop into the station one Sunday morning and have a chat. We train every Sunday morning from 9:30 - 12. You can also go to www.cfa.vic.gov.au and follow the volunteering links to find out more information on becoming a CFA volunteer.

-TRAINING-

As mentioned above Sunday morning training is 9:30 - 12. If you become a fire fighter and can't make it to Sunday morning training, we also train Wednesday nights 7:30 - 9 and Monday mornings 9:30 - 12 especially for any shift workers or at-home parents.

-VEHICLES & EQUIPMENT-

The St Andrews Fire Station houses the brigade's four appliances and trailer. We have two almost identical four-wheel drive tankers; each carries 3000 litres of water, fire-fighting pump and a wide range of equipment. St Andrews Tankers 1&2 are designed especially for fighting bushfires and grassfires in a rural environment. They also, however, contain equipment used to fight structural fires in houses or sheds, meaning the brigade is able to respond to all fire risks in our area. Our third appliance is St Andrews Ultra-light Tanker (ULT), based on a Nissan Patrol chassis, it carries 550 litres of water and most of the same hoses and equipment as the bigger tankers. The ULT is designed as a first-attack vehicle for bush and grassfires and can access areas where the larger tankers cannot. Our fourth appliance is a Ford Ranger ute, the St Andrews FCV (Forward Command Vehicle), it is used as a control point at incidents and sometimes as a scouting vehicle, being able to respond quicker than the tankers. The brigade's 'Big Fill' is a very large pump mounted on a trailer which is used at large fires to fill multiple tankers in a short period of time, from either a dam or a water tank. The ULT, FCV, Tanker 1 and the Big Fill Trailer were all purchased with the assistance of community donations. Find pictures of all appliances in the photos section.
