⚠️ Important Warning for Rural Property Owners & Farmers ⚠️

Recent reports out of the Wangaratta region have highlighted the tragic loss of livestock after animals gained access to ash and debris from a burn pile containing treated timber.

Many treated timbers including old fence posts and landscaping timber contain chemicals such as arsenic, which can become highly toxic once burnt.

🔥 Important reminders when conducting burn-offs:
• Never burn treated timber
• Keep livestock well away from burn piles and ash sites
• Be mindful of dumping garden clippings near paddocks or fires
• Some common garden plants can also be deadly to livestock

Please stay safe and protect your animals, property and community. 🚒🐄

Our Brigade Management Team also remains unchanged, with:
• 1st Lieutenant – Ben Spence

We would also like to acknowledge some important changes within our administrative and support roles.
A huge thank you to outgoing Secretary Rebecca Saward for her many years of fantastic support and dedication in the treasury role.
We also thank outgoing Treasurer Sarah Ellery for her contribution and tenure in the position.

We warmly welcome Sandra Deas into the combined Secretary/Treasurer role, along with Luke Morrison stepping into the Community Safety & Social Media role.

This National Volunteer Week, we want to take a moment to recognise and thank every single volunteer who gives their time, energy and commitment to support our community through Springhurst CFA.

Coming off the back of one of the busiest fire seasons we’ve seen in recent years, our volunteers have once again stepped up, responding to incidents, protecting homes and property, supporting neighbouring brigades, attending training, maintaining equipment and always being ready when the pager goes off. 🚒🔥

To all our brigade members, support volunteers, families, employers and everyone who helps make volunteering possible, thank you!
Your commitment does not go unnoticed and our community is stronger because of you.

From all of us at Springhurst CFA
Happy National Volunteer Week and thank you for everything you do. ❤️🚒

The weather is cooling down, and if lighting up a fire pit is in your weekend plans, be safe!
🔥️Never leave a fire unattended, and always you have plenty of water on hand to extinguish it when you are done.

Keep you burn-off safe and legal
- Check fire restrictions with your local council and register your burn online at firepermits.vic.gov.au or phone 1800 668 511
- Check and monitor weather conditions – particularly wind
- To avoid unnecessary calls to emergency services, notify your neighbours beforehand
- Leave a three metre fire break, free from flammable materials around the burn
- Have sufficient equipment and water to stop the fire spreading
- Never leave a burn-off unattended – stay for its entire duration
- If your burn-off gets out of control, call ‘000’ immediately

Fire Danger Period has now ended.

We know many of you have been hanging out for this and we appreciate everyone doing the right thing over the past few months 👏

As restrictions lift, this means some burning activities may resume but safety still comes first.

Before lighting up, please remember:
✅ Check local conditions and weather
✅ Follow all permit requirements
✅ Never leave a fire unattended
✅ Have water or extinguishing equipment ready

Just because restrictions ease doesn’t mean the risk disappears.

Let’s continue to look out for each other and keep our community safe 🚒👨‍🚒

👉 Change your clock, change your smoke alarm battery.

It’s a simple step that could save your life.

While you’re at it:
✅ Press the test button, make sure it works
✅ Check batteries
(or replace if needed)
✅ Clean dust from the alarm
✅ Check the age, if it’s over 10 years old, it’s time for a new one

💛 Thank You Springhurst Community 💛

What an incredible effort from such a small community 👏

The support shown through this year’s Good Friday Appeal has been nothing short of amazing.

Every donation, big or small, truly makes a difference.

There are children in our own community who have needed the care of the Royal Children’s Hospital and there will be more in the future.

Your generosity helps ensure that care is always there when it’s needed most ❤️

A huge thank you as well to our amazing CFA volunteers who gave up their day to support this great cause 🚒👏
Your time, effort and dedication to the community never go unnoticed.

We are so proud to be part of a community that shows up, gives back and supports one another.
Great work, Springhurst!
