27/05/2026

Hey NSW Reconstruction Authority , here are some tips to Get Ready for tonight’s Origin clash!

1. Know your risk
Queenslanders are a fearsome lot; Get Ready to lose.

2. Make a plan
Figure out a quick and safe exit when we’re making our victory laps.

3. Pack a kit
Essentials include tissues (for the tears), aloe vera (for the burns), and maybe a Queensland jersey - you’ll want to back a winning team eventually.

Stay safe out there. We’ll try not to celebrate too hard 🏉💪

Let's step back in time to the 1974 floods in Rockhampton.

Flooding in Rocky this year reminded all of us of the town's flood history. These incredible photos were shared by a local resident, who was caught in those floods over 50 years ago.

"The only way we could get out was on our cars on flat wagons on the train. They used a forklift to put them on. Very exciting for us teenagers at the time. I still remember all the hyacinth floating down the river out to sea."

What memories do you have of the '74 Rocky floods?

Over 640 properties visited. Hundreds of conversations. One dedicated team.

Last week our officers hit the road across north and Far North Queensland, checking on properties and speaking with residents impacted by last year’s floods.

We saw incredible resilience, but we also heard about challenges like accessing trades for repairs and issues with drainage.

Reconstruction Monitoring is more than just a visit though, it’s about making sure the voices of affected communities are heard. The insights we gather help deliver better recovery outcomes so no one gets left behind.

Thank you to the residents of Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Hinchinbrook and Townsville we spoke with for your time and valuable feedback.

We’ll keep working side by side with councils and communities to make sure Queenslanders get the help they need to recover and rebuild 💪

Knock knock... who's there?🚪

It's our QRA officers, who'll be out and about in north and Far North Queensland, 18-22 May!

Our friendly team will be visiting around 600 properties across Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Hinchinbrook and Townsville still identified as damaged from the floods of 2025.

This is part of our ongoing Reconstruction Monitoring efforts to help us understand how recovery in communities is progressing and where extra support might be needed ✅

The info we collect is shared with councils, government agencies, insurers, and builders, so the right help can get to the right people.

📬 Not going to be home? No worries, we’ll leave a contact card so you can reach out.
👋 See us on your street? Come and say gidday.

Building stronger infrastructure to make our regions safer 💪

In early 2024, the Laroona Culvert servicing Spinifex Creek in Queensland's rural north was overwhelmed by floodwaters.

The ageing Charters Towers infrastructure couldn’t cope with the huge volume of rainfall in the area, resulting in roads cut, residents isolated, and businesses impacted.

In response, council worked with the Queensland Reconstruction Authority to upgrade the culvert, increasing its strength and capacity to better manage larger and more frequent flood events.

Jointly funded under Commonwealth-state Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), the Laroona Culvert improvements will give local communities greater confidence in times of severe weather, reducing road damage and closures in the years ahead 🛣️
