Rehabilitation meets resilience 🛠️

Through a partnership with Queensland Corrective Services, low-security prisoners are rolling up their sleeves to help Queensland communities get ready and bounce back following disasters.

From sandbagging ahead of a cyclone to cleaning up after a flood, these work camps show up for our SES and rural fire brigades exactly when they need extra hands.

It's community service that builds skill and contributes to resilience. Everyone wins!

Well done to the Queensland Corrective Services officers who worked with the Queensland Police Service to charge a man in relation to an attempted $1 million drone drop into Townsville Correctional Centre recently.

A 47-year-old man has been charged with five counts of supplying dangerous drugs into a correctional facility, and one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, dealing with a prohibited item in a corrective services facility, supplying a medication and drone-related offences under the Corrective Services Act.

They’re the iconic major events driving key economic and social lifelines to some of Queensland’s most remote outback communities, but there’s a surprising group of individuals putting in hard yards behind the scenes well before the tourists roll in.

Queensland Corrective Services’ Julia Creek and Boulia Work Camps have been hard at work helping local councils and communities set up, pack up and clean up for events like Cloncurry Merry Muster Festival and the Boulia Camel Races. 🐫🎡

It’s a source of labour that ensures these attractions go off without a hitch, boosting tourism and supporting local business all while helping keep Queensland communities safer.
