We’re proud to be raising money for the Animal Welfare League (AWL), a cause that is close to the heart of our Finance team’s Mrs Whittaker.

Two years ago, Mrs Whittaker adopted Vader, a Shih Tzu/Maltese cross, from AWL after he was found after running away during a storm. Today, Vader is a much-loved member of the family!

Mrs Whittaker knows firsthand what a difference AWL makes for animals in need. Animals in their care receive essential support including medication, vaccinations, microchipping and desexing, while the team works hard to find the right forever home for each animal.

Community donations also help provide food, blankets, toys and other essentials to keep animals comfortable and cared for while they wait for their new families.

SOUTH COAST TRACK & FIELD SUCCESS!

A fantastic result for Southport SHS at last week’s South Coast Track & Field Trials, with 35 students taking to the track representing our school with pride!

There were some brilliant performances across the three days of competition, with 11 of our athletes earning selection in the South Coast Team and progressing to the Queensland Track & Field State Championships in Brisbane, next month!

A huge achievement and one to be proud of! Congratulations to all of our athletes on a fantastic South Coast campaign - we can’t wait to see our students wearing the South Coast colours and taking on Queensland’s best! 🌟

Spring Carnival is just around the corner with a fantastic planned full of activities to suit everyone. More importantly, the aim of the day is to raise funds for Animal Welfare League, an organisation that has a valued partnership with our school. Tickets to access activities are on sale now through QKR - $10 each. The more tickets we sell, the more funds we raise.

Did you know that lots of our SSHS staff are involved in animal rescue?

Keep following as we share some of their stories and don't forget to purchase your $10 tickets through QKR to raise much needed funds for Animal Welfare League. Ticket sales close Sunday, 13th September.

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the successful completion of their Certificate II in Electrotechnology at Gold Coast Trade College!

This fantastic achievement is a testament to their hard work, dedication and commitment, and marks an exciting first step towards a future in the electrical industry.

What started with a sausage sizzle turned into an epic night of live music, great food and plenty of fun for our Father's Day BBQ!

12 incredible student bands battled it out for the title of 2026 Battle of the Bands, with Cloud 9 taking out the win!

With 150+ students, families and staff attending, free sausages sizzling, drinks on hand and an incredible atmosphere, it was a fantastic afternoon celebrating our talented students and our school community and importantly, dads!

A huge thank you to everyone who came along, supported the bands, enjoyed the BBQ (thanks to our P&C) and helped make the night such a success.

And to all 12 bands — you absolutely rocked!

A special mention and thank you to our wonderful music teachers Ms Morison and Mr Watson for all your help behind the scenes.

WHAT A NIGHT AT EVOLUTION!

An incredible 120 SSHS dancers from Years 7–12 took to the stage at Evolution Dance Competition, with some fantastic results!

While we are incredibly proud of these results, we are even prouder of the supportive culture our students continue to create. Seeing students across Years 7–12 cheering each other on, celebrating each other’s successes, and representing SSHS with such positivity and pride was the highlight of the night.

This term, our Musical Theatre students performed in their annual assessment showcase. Students had the exciting opportunity to share their hard work and talents with a live audience over two nights, showcasing the performance skills they have developed throughout the year.
We are incredibly proud of all students for their commitment, creativity and confidence both on and off the stage. Congratulations to everyone involved in making the showcase such a wonderful celebration of Musical Theatre!
