๐Ÿšง๐Ÿ’งWater Corporation construction update โ€“ September 2026 ๐Ÿ’ง๐Ÿšง

Water Corporationโ€™s contractors: Georgiou and SRG & McConnell Dowell will soon begin work to renew the Nulla Nulla, Southern Cross, and Yerbillon sections of the Goldfields pipeline โ€“ 566-kilometre pipeline from Perth to Kalgoorlie. The Shire of Yilgarn has a total of 26.9km of our initial 44.5km Stage One upgrades.

This infrastructure has been in use since 1903, and upgrades are required to continue to support development, and to ensure a safe and reliable water supply in the Wheatbelt and Goldfields.

What to expect:

This work is planned to commence in September 2026 and will take approximately 12 months to complete.

The pipeline will be installed near Great Eastern Highway in Bodallin, Moorine Rock, and Southern Cross. Maps of the work area can be seen below.

Most work will take place Monday to Sunday between 7am to 5pm. Water Corporation will be in touch via email if out-of-hours work is required.

You may notice an increase in noise, dust and heavy vehicle traffic along Great Eastern Highway during the work period.

Traffic management will be in place for a small period of this work to keep everyone safe. Water Corporation will let you know the details closer to when itโ€™s required.

AusAlert is a new national warning system that uses the latest
technology to send emergency messages to compatible mobile
devices.

It will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, we
need to test the system across Australia.

On Monday 27 July, your mobile devices, such as mobile phones,
tablets and smart watches, may receive a test alert.

The test times across Australian time zones are:
โ€ข 2:00 pm AEST (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS)
โ€ข 1:30 pm ACST (SA, NT, Broken Hill NSW)
โ€ข 12:00 pm AWST (WA)

The message will vibrate and include a loud, siren-like sound that
lasts about 10 seconds. If this could disrupt you or cause you or
a loved one to feel unsafe, please turn off your mobile devices or
switch them to aeroplane mode before the scheduled test time in
your location, and leave them off for at least one hour.

As this is just a test, you donโ€™t need to do anything, but in an actual
disaster you should follow the alert instructions to keep yourself and
others safe.

Brief highlights:
โ–ช Final section to be upgraded is between Moorine Rock and Southern Cross starting early 2027.
โ–ช 80 km/h temporary maximum speed limits introduced as a precautionary safety measure to provide a safer driving environment, particularly during wet weather - remedial works are scheduled for September 2026 and the road will be reassessed with the aim of restoring the speed limit.

SHIRE OF YILGARN NOTICE - ROAD CLOSURES
Due to varying rainfall across the Shire, future SMS notifications will be issued as reminders only and may not identify individual road closures.

Vehicles exceeding 4.5 tonnes GVM are reminded that Main Roads WA RAV and HVS permit conditions prohibit travel on gravel roads when they are visibly wet.
Drivers and operators remain responsible for assessing road conditions and complying with permit requirements at all times.

The absence of a closure notice does not remove this responsibility. As the road manager under the Local Government Act 1995, the Shire may restrict access to roads and seek recovery of costs where road damage is caused by vehicle
movements during unsuitable conditions.

Parker Range Road and Marvel Loch Forrestania Road are managed by Main Roads WA. For information on these roads contact Main Roads WA on (08) 9622 4777 or 138 138 after hours.
